Mobile Suit Pilot
Update: Voice acting deadline

January 17th, 2007 - 11:59PM CST (5:59PM GMT)
Auditions entered after this deadline will NOT be considered.

1. Introduction : Welcome To The Casting Call!

The Shadows of Lylat Dev Team is looking for talented voice actors. We are in need of a lot of different voices, and we will be portraying classic StarFox characters and also a few original characters. We require diverse voice actors that can deliver professional sounding voice overs and audio work.

2. What's Required To Try Out?

You will be required to send us links to recordings of a few specified lines, and (optional) you may include links to one or two of your previous voice acting roles (Again, this is optional; no experience is needed, but having it is nice to see where you're coming from). You'll also need to send us a little information. No experience is necessary, but that doesn't mean we will be settling with sub-par actors! Voice-acting competition is always fierce so have a good attitude, have fun, and enjoy yourself as you prepare your samples. If you think you can do a good job, then go for it! WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU'LL GET THE CHARACTER YOU WANT, SO PLEASE HAVE AN OPEN-MIND WHEN YOU SEND IN AN APPLICATION AND DON'T BE DISSAPPOINTED IF WE DON'T CAST YOU AS YOUR FIRST, SECOND, or LAST CHOICE. We will try to match you up with a character that fits you best though, so we're doing our best to make sure everything is good. Remember Experience is NOT Required!

3. Required Information

You will need to send the following information to STRIKE911.
Private Message Strike911, with this information along with links to your sample recordings. You can PM by clicking my name, and then clicking Private Message. You MUST register at the forums to do this.

(1) Screen Name:
(2) Email:
(3) Age:
(4) What character (or kind of character) do you think you would play best? Why?
(5) Do you consider yourself a good voice actor? Why?
(6) Anything else we should know about you? Tell us!
(optional) Please list any voice acting experience and links

4. Required Samples

You must record the following samples in good quality. You are free to choose what your voice will sound like, and you are encouraged to use multiple voices and dialects to allow us to hear your full vocal capacity. Send recordings of ALL the following. I AM not looking for you to guess what lines these are from in old StarFox games, I want you to be creative and try to show us YOUR voice. These are merely lines. Be creative!

(1) You'll never defeat team StarFox!
(2) Hey Fox! Bogey on my tail!
(3) Oh... no... I- I'm hit! I'm hit!!!!
(4) Husky Unit! Cover the Base!
(5) Hahaha! You're pathetic! I expected so much more. Hm. No matter. I'll do away with you myself.
(6) What the heck?! I don't believe it?!
(7) Alpha Unit! Cover that sector and don't let any of them through!
(8) Hahahahaha! This is pathetic!
(optional) You are also allowed to send two (2) links from outside works if you so choose.

5. Extra Info

REMEMBER, send the Information and the linked samples to Strike911 through a Private Message! We will try to get back to you as soon as possible, and we will also attempt to cast you as quickly as possible, but it may take some time, so please be patient. Please post here for more information and to verify that you sent your application to Strike911. Thanks. Good luck! I will let you know through a Private Message and through an E-Mail if you have been casted, but again we will require quite a bit of time so we can review all of the try-outs.

I think it would be good to know that casting will not be done right away because we need to find the exact fit for each character before we say "hey, that's a peppy right there."

Thanks a lot! Got it.

Remember everybody if you're interested in just doing some voice acting and don't know much about StarFox don't be intimidated. We need original characters, too! So what I'm trying to say is if you're interested and think you can commit to the project, then please just send a try out in and see what happens. :)

I will also make a try, but I only own a cheap microphone and never did something like this. Will have some tries and then I will send you some samples..! :D

Moin moin! :)

Don't worry about that. I guess quite a few voice actors do not have great microphones.

We'll just cover that by adding some fancy raido noise. ;)

I guess the most important thing (or better, the "base") for a voice actor is, not to hold back. That's also the reason I just can't do it... even though I was doing a bit acting at school.

Well I simply dont know how to add radio noise. I could try it by making the samples via cellphone ;)

Aber wie gesagt, ich werds mal versuchen und die Tage das Mikrophon auch erstmal suchen müssen :D

That's something that should be added later by an audio artist, so it's the same for all samples.

dont wanna sound negative, but wouldnt it be better to concentrate on the cake, rather then fuss about the icing? (shouldnt you concentrate on getting a working, releasable demo first?)

That's correct. If we can really get everything else done for the demo in time (and it doesn't look bad atm), we need to start the voice acting asap!

Are you still interested in helping us uk_resistant?

what i mean is rather then spending time on voice acting (which should be a stand alone release anyway) i think it would be better to release playable material, then release the voice pack after as an optional (which will cut the download size considerably and make it more accessible to plenty more people).

on the matter of helpingyeah im still intrested, just had to prepare some work for a career show, so im looking to get cracking mid next week. I did start modelling it but its hard to get a look that seems to look right Ive got starwing on rom so il try n get some more shots to help me.

cheers

It's not a bad idea to make the voice acting pack optional. The starfox voices are probably not what everbody likes. ;)
I'll also add an optional download package for high-end systems. With some things I took out, because they don't justify the performance drop.

But there is no need to wait with the voice acting till we're done. Strike911 took over the voice acting management, so it's not slowing down my work, or the work of any other member.

The parallel development should work pretty well.

Sounds good.

Still Looking?

You guys still looking? I don't know how much help I could be, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

Oh, and by the way, does anyone know of a place I could host the files?

We are still looking, when we aren't looking anymore, we'll put a giant "Closed" banner on this topic, or lock the topic, and post that's over.

BUT YES, WE'RE STILL LOOKING FOR VOICEACTORS.

If you can save your recordings on Geocities or any other free WebSite host. Just make it look like you have a website or something, lol. There are also a multitude of free host services like ...

yousendit.com

that lets you send stuff... so yeah. If all else fails you can probably google it and find some more info. :) Hope this points you in the right direction.
