Steam=CRAP!

On all my new games for my PC, they have some internet program that comes along with them called "Steam" So far, it's been a pain in my ass.

It caused major issues with MW2, I couldn't even play Empire: total war, and now, it's telling me it's gonna take 4 hours to download an update for Supreme Commander 2. I EVEN WENT TO STARBUCKS AND IT WAS MOVING AT A SNAIL'S PACE!...that game cost me sixty bucks, and now I probaby won't even get to play it.

Is anyone else having difficulties with Steam?

"And I have an Asus"

Is that supposed to be, like, impressive or something? "An Asus" can mean anything from an Eee upwards, and no matter what hardware you have, none of it would make your net connection (which is the culprit here, not Steam) any faster.

For the record: Steam is awesome. Not as awesome as GoG, or using physical discs, but certainly better than the alternatives *glances over at Ubisofts' DRM fiasco*

No it isn't.

I loathe Steam because it forces me to get ANY updates available. It is not awesome if you're someone like me who has satelite internet. Also, the updates cannot be removed or avoided, and Steam doesn't care if it raises system requirements too high to function properly.

I hate the Steam in general, and prefer games the way they were. Back when all I needed was my disc(s), and perhaps an unlock code.

EDIT: I mentioned that I have an Asus to stress that my computer's capability is being wasted because Steam is inadvertantly preventing me from playing the top of the line games that I specifically got this computer for, all because of my internet access quality. *blood pressure rises*

The alternative to Steam is Impulse. You want to argue Steam is better?

Steam is pretty great. I buy most of my games that way these days, but I do have the benefit of a great connection.

You should just find the option to disable automatic updates; it's present somewhere.

Oh, and Modern Warfare 2 is a tremendous disappointment.

It is, but I still have to update the game before I can play it. After it detects an update, there's no stopping it. Even wth high speed wifi access, the update download time is unbelievably LONG.

I wish it was optional to have Steam on your game and not mandatory. When the WEATHER partially dictates your gaming experience, you'll hate Steam too.

EDIT: Yeah, MW2 was a big dissapointment. The whole Shepherd betrayal twist was BS.

I've never had any issues with Steam so far, except for the occasional ridiculous downloading and update times.

What exactly confirms it as a tremendous disappointment in your opinion? :wtf:

It was a rushed sequel that the studio never wanted to make. The plot was an incoherent series of half-baked setpieces, the multiplayer was a glitchy camp-fest, and the beautiful gameplay of the first game fell apart in a hail of overpowered weapons, unbalanced killstreaks, and easily spammed explosives.

Oh and the plot revolved around a general working with terrorists because nobody would pay attention to him.

The only problem I've had with Steam is the backup process, which never seemed to complete properly. Since moving to Windows 7 though it seems to work now so I'm saved from having to download everything again if I have to reinstall Steam or my PC in the future. As a form of DRM it's not caused me any serious problems and I've just accepted some of the limitations it brings but personally it's not disrupted my gaming experience, so I have little reason to be annoyed at having to use it.

I still wonder why developers continue to cash out on Starforce protection and Securom though, which clearly are quiet effective at stopping piracy aren't they?
