It all started around August 28th
Game-Warden.com went down under very mysterious circumstances.
There is a reason for this. Someone, who shall remain anonymous until I am authorized to release his name, uploaded multiple illegal file torrents onto his personal FTP account. Someone reported the incident to the DMCA, and Game-Warden.com was promptly shut down by its former host. We had violated the company's TOS (terms of service) agreement, and thus our hosting account was subject to immediate termination.
When I first received the email notifying me of what had happened, I nearly crapped my pants. Not only had Game-Warden.com been shut down, but I was liable for all sorts of lawsuits and indictments etc. After about a weeks worth of negotiatons, and a call from some private investigation agency, I (thankfully) found out I was not liable for any blame.
This got me out of hot water, but not this website. After all of this legal lingo, I managed to convince our former hosting company to allow me temporary access to my account, so I could back up everyone's stuff. Thankfully, I was able to grap everything. This is when you saw the temporary page come up that asked for donations and gave a very brief status report.
As you remember, the temporary page said that "everything would be explained later." I didnt try and tell everyone what was happening at the time because I wanted to keep panic to a minimum. I simply said that "the site is down right now, I will get it up as soon as i can." You guys were patient, trusting and supportive despite the lack of a complete explanation. For that I am very thankful.
I needed to find a new webhost, fast. I already had a sort of an escape plan (as you can see here), but it was still in its early stages and required a lot more planning than I already had in place. After lots of shopping and looking around, I had made up my mind. I rented a dedicated server. Right now we are on our own dedicated server, hooked up to dual T1 lines, with 1gb of ram and a AMD 4000+ processor. Quite a beast.
As you probably would guess, this was not cheap to set up. I paid for most of it out of pocket, but I also received lots of donations. Thank you to all of the people that donated. The donations were just enough to offset the cost and make it easier for me. As promised, you will be recognized later for your assistance once I get around to setting up sponsor memberships.
The recent outages (the last week or so) have been due to my inexperience with UNIX servers and setting up DNS. Fortunately, Taylor was here to walk me through much of this inital setup, and we were able to get everything online as of yesterday.
Thats about it for the explanation. Expect more announcements soon. There are many great things to come!
