WAP/lite version of GW?
« on: January 22, 2009, 08:14:11 PM »
Hello,

So I was wondering wheter it was possible to have a WAP/lite version of Game-Warden forums, as that would help me visit the forum more often and I'd finally have something else to check via my phone other than HLP ( yea, HLP for some reason is getting boring, as it's the only forums that I check when not at school ). It'd also make it easier for me to check ED internal stuff. So, yea... HLP has a lite/WAP version, can GW have one as well? Or is that too difficult to do?

It might require other Forum script than VBulletin BB.

Well it's not something I could do. So it depends on whether the other admins know how.

I will see what I can do. I *think* it is possible in the new version of VBB. I will be upgrading to it later today so I guess we will soon see.

it wouldnt really be an upgrade, per say. More of a lateral-grade (if that is a word)

phpbb is too easy to hack plus there are not nearly enough usergroup functions for our purposes

smf is good, but honestly its basically the same as vbulletin if you skin it right. vbulletin also tends to run faster and have more security updates. It also has more finely tuned features. I will look into it some simply because i havent in a while, but i doubt its changed much in the last year. any other thoughts?

I tend to shy away from changing software, because there is so much of a chance of something fraking up. Wed also have to redo everyones themes, links etc etc

Ok. I see.
I'd like to remind my two suggestions from this thread: http://game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6952
And I want to suggest to decrease avatar size limit, now avatars are giants and Forum doesn't look good with giant-avatars.
Also main Forum skin could be changed to more FreeSpace-like skin :) If you want I can help in getting pictures for logos and buttons to do cool Forum layout.

Actually I don't think we should go with a Freespace theme for the main board. Firstly I like the one we have now but more importantly we're trying to push GW as being about mods and TC, not just another FS2 board.

Well, so maybe changing this theme to the one called experimental? It's more friendly for my eyes? Having experimental as default theme would be IMO better...

Thanks. That blue colour doesn't fit sci-fi game Forum ;)

You'll post that link here, right? That is, if the WAP/lite version is made.
