Doesn't seem like anyone is left
« on: January 17, 2009, 11:10:07 AM »
I'm new to the site and i wanted to re-dl freespace two using the updated version, FS_Open i think it was. I tried using the tutorial and the files for downloading freespace aren't available anymore, and i don't have my cd's with me.

Is anyone left on these forums, or plays freespace multiplayer?

The download doesn't work because FS2 is now for sale once again at Good Old Games so we had to remove them (plus we want to support them too).

More info on the subject can be found here.

FS2_Open still requires the original game.

mine doesn't :/ I got it off of the download page on hard-light.net Just download and place into C:>Games>Freespace 2 to get the game ready. Then you have to go to the luancher itself (has a pawprint icon) and adjust the settings.

Either you downloaded everything before GOG started selling it, or there's a hole in the HLP wall :nervous:

I can assure you that the HLP wall is rock solid. Which suggests that varsaigen indeed used something (most likely Turey's Installer) to get FSO and FS2 back when there was no GOG.

He joined (here at least) last April... I would reason he got it then.

....Are you for real? One, get FS2 from a legitimate source. Two, use the fsopen installer (Found, funnily enough, at http://fsopeninstaller.com ) to install FS2Open and the enhancements.

FSOpen on hard-light.net will not install retail FS2.

As The_E said, use GoodOldGames to purchase it.

The community supports Good Old Games thanks to its capacity to sell a fully legal copy of FreeSpace 2, and the price is only 6$. As you probably know, the series ended with FS2 due to poor advertising (and, consequently, poor selling)... thanks to sites like GoG, it's possible to give FS2 the boost it didn't get upon release.

As soon as you get your copy, go to Hard Light Productions and follow all specified hints to download FreeSpace Open and the Media VPs. :)
