I can see both sides of this.

Omni and the team are doing this in their own time, unpaid and largely (finacially and technically) un-supported.  Their team is geographically dispersed, which makes co-ordinating the projects more difficult, and each member has other priorities.  BTRL has to be on the back burner for each of them, and so even a small issue that involves two or more of them could take months to deal with because of waiting for the "other guy" to do their part before you can do your own.  Equally, it must be irritating to have heckling and impatient quizzing from the fans - a bit like kids in the car asking "are we there yet?".

At the same time, a lack of semi-regular updates, especially since we had become relatively accustomed to them - is easily interpreted as the project having stalled.  While the Devs have no legal obligation to the fans to keep them updated, it being a subscription-free process, they do have an intellectual obligation if they want to keep the fans interested.  It'd be a crying shame to have expended all this effort if the fans get bored waiting and move on to the next big thing, and the final relaease is greeted by the sound of thunderous silence.

Omni, we know you're busy, and we know you are developing a hell of a game with no intetnion of reward, but could you or a another Dev member possibly find a few minutes a month to give a small update, just to whet our appetitites and keep the interest and anticipation going?

And Maya, nice attitude! :doubtful:

Haha! Omni, maybe you should have that as your title?

Slightly modified, "I AM Mr. Sunshine!"
or
                        "I am Mr. Sunshine!"

Maybe sticky this and move all similar threads to this one. I recall a handfull over the years.

I bet that when BTRL is ready and released it'll have many new fans and the oldies (if someone ever left) will come back.

As I told to someone sometime ago, a couple of screenies upon a time may help somehow.

Peace and patience

I so totally am playing whatever BSG mods get released.  If that's 1, 2, or more...I'm playing them. :)

Personally, working on and waiting for various X-Plane projects has made me rather paitient when it comes to getting software-based projects done. I am happy to support the development team by standing by paitiently (though it is fun to hear of what progress has been made).

Most excellent work, gentlemen (and ladies, too)!

It's not a copy, if you read the game summary you'll see there was a schism in the BtRL staff, Diaspora is the resolution of that schism and the continuation of BtRL.

Hmmm. That is both interesting and disturbing at the same time. I would very much like to know what happened to cause the original project to fall apart.

The "About" Page for the mod has been updated.

Quote
In October 2008, a part of the fluctuating team announced that they had left the Beyond the Red Line development to work on a different project; one that is in no way affiliated with the Beyond the Red Line vision. Discussing the whys and hows is pointless when development of the full game is our highest priority.

So, that seems to be that.
