« on: August 01, 2008, 06:43:40 PM »
Anyone having trouble with the new drivers for the Nvidia 6600 series?. The machine I got runs one of those and after the drivers upgrade I get a damn black screen..

Any info on this matter/issue would be much appreciated.

Thanks, behave and have a good weekend!,

Hmm, it should resort to fallback safe mode if the drivers aren't working...

If it doesn't, try starting Windows in safe mode and re-install old working drivers. 6600 series is a bit old for playing the most recent games anyway, and older games will not be optimized anymore anyways on the drivers, so I would just use the most recent functioning set of drivers and be done with it.

Think positive - use the old drivers and you get to use the good ol' NVidia control panel and not this new bloated, difficult-to-use and actually feature-stripped piece of crud they now have...:p

I got a 6600 and it can handle most newish games, just the rest of the pc is failing.

Is this a common problem with the newer drivers, the black screen thing? Coz I dont really wanna install some drivers that do this.

Hey Deckard,
The standard WHQL windows driver should handle things fine.
If you want the NVIDIA Control panel though look for alternative packages besides the current driver you have. If you are using an AMD system I would check you VIA chipset drivers if they exist on that motherboard as well. If it is an HP, look up a few things about AMD & Service Pack 3 for XP. I had a major failure with that update, but it was not as bad as it could have been to remedy with Google.
Nothing bothers me I\'m already disturbed.

Hey, thanks for the good input; guys . I'm going to reinstall in order to be completely sure on whether this trouble is because these Nvidia drivers or not.

Hope to see you online soon, ;)
