Episode 4x11 "The Hub" Discussion *SPOILERS INSIDE* (Obviously)

From the ridiculousness of last week to the sublime:

Quote
"About time."

That is why Olmos is awesome.

Anyway, great episode, lots of explosions (+2 basestars and +1 Resurrection Hub to Galactica's scorecard) forming the backdrop for interesting character revelations. About time Roslin realised what a hardass she's become.

Next week's episode looks like it's going to be great as well.
The Penultimate Four are rumbled. Tory bails to go live on the basestar. Tigh confesses to Adama. Tigh, Anders and Tyrol are nearly airlocked but something Tyrol does to Starbuck's Viper gives them the coordinates of Earth.
I'm getting sick of the mind fraking...

Three to Roslin "You're one of them....PSYCHE!"
Great waited all week for a joke.

I forgot to post last week as I was too upset..

Adama steps down for tigh... WTF? Why is Tigh not in the Brig for conduct unbecoming and fraternization with the enemy? Is Six even still in the Brig?

Why now is Adama like "I can't command anymore I WUV her so much I can't think straight, I got to find her..."

Oh please! Lee abandons the fleet, Adama threatens Tyrol and Cally and Starbuck with death on occasion and they are almost family, but Roslyn is gone for just a little bit and it breaks him like a cheap vase (mom always said no playing ball in the house!) :)

He didn't break like for MONTHS when Roslyn was trapped on New Caprica, why should this be much different (ie He's just getting OLD AND SOFT, seriously he should start looking about getting a ball implant).

But seriously, didn't they have anything set up before hand on who would be in charge with the Pres and VP gone? Are they that ignorant that something could happen?

Why do they need to vote for a new president, they just have to wait a bit. Why couldn't the quorum take basic control and suspend any votes until they get back or a REASONABLE amount of time passes to give them up for dead and then elect a new leader...

I find it ironic that Lee fought so hard for Roslyn and always had her back as a soldier, but when he did the trial he flipped and keeps betraying her and seems to have become Zarek's pawn... (unless I am interpreting that part wrong)

BTW, Christ is everyone getting a "Head" groupie now???

The BEST part of this episode was the battle... Next week has GOT to be better,,,
I am seriously disappointed with Roslyn, she had the perfect opportunity to off baltar and was in the right from his own lips.

"I gave them the codes, but I can sleep at night" Frak him! He did far worse and now his fake self-forgiveness makes me violently ill... I lost all respect for Roslyn JUST as I was on the edge of my seat cheering as she ripped off that bandage and sat there watching him start to bleed to death, "FRAK YEAH!!! OMG you finally ROCK!"

A few minutes later my jaw hit the floor as she struggled to save his life and I was then, "You weak fraking Bitch... Hurry up and die before you do more damage. Good thing you're supposed to die before they find Earth, you don't deserve to see it anyway!"

:)

I don't even know where to begin...I guess I'll start from the top.

Tigh is the only experienced officer left that Adama could even begin to think of putting in command of the fleet; it's sure as hell not going to be Hoshi.

Adama has always loved Roslin, it's been, in my opinion, a truly beautiful love story between the two. They've obviously belonged together, yet because of their jobs, it's impossible. And as for his reaction, I refer you back to Season 1 when Starbuck crashed on the red planet; both Adamas freaked OUT over that, and did the same thing where they lost perspective because they were too close to the situation. If anything, now Adama is probably remembering that and thinking, "Frak, not this again."

The vote for the new president is necessary because Adama, and most likely Tigh, don't trust Zarek as far as they can throw him. LEGALLY, Zarek is the next in line for the presidency and would have been president, but Lee rightfully pointed out that nothing would get done if he was President because the Galactica wouldn't cooperate with him.

And Lee is far from being Zarek's pawn. In fact, Lee is going against almost everything that Zarek wants. It's pissing Zarek off too, because he thought if he got Lee on the quorum, Lee would do what he said. Lee, of course, does what he thinks is right, and frak anyone that gets in his way.

Baltar honestly forgives himself. He's always been self centered, but I feel he honestly believes in his new religion, and part of that religion is that God made everyone perfect, so anything you've done is excused. I'm not saying it's not the cheap way out, but it's certainly not fake to him.

As for Roslin...the cancer has been eating away more than her body, it's been eating away her humanity. She's been growing harder and harder, pushing away any chance of feeling love because it would hurt too much. In order for her to get her humanity back, she had to spare Baltar. He couldn't die like that, because of her. Again, forgiveness for the sake of humanity.

I'm so glad Roslin and Adama finally expressed their love. It's been how many years those two have been flirting? Seriously, I think waiting for Roslin to tell Adama "I love you" was the point I was most on the edge of my seat the whole episode.

It's 4x11 in the production numbers, counting Razor as the first two episodes.

No, actually, because the two parts of Razor were designated 4x01 and 4x02. Go figure.

EDIT: David beat me to it :p

I've just watched it and I must say it's a great episode. I wonder how Eight will go over what she believe to be another betrayal(Helo obeying the order to bring Three back to Roslin) . Also the effects were pretty good , and we can clearly see that their alliance is powerful... there must have been a few good hundred raiders there.

I particularly liked Baltar trying to convert the Centurion... I wonder if that won't have repercussions in another episode.

Baltar's conversation with the Centurion was hilarious.
Especially when he started talking about the pet dog sitting patient with the food balanced on its nose and the Centurion tilted his head....:D

I felt Pike's deathbed multijump could have been given more importance... they should have had him carrying some vital information or something, and kept flashing back to him as he struggled to execute jump after jump to get back to Galactica, but ultimately dies on the last jump. They could have made him a tragic hero.

Instead, he became a landmark for the story...

One other place where it didn't gel with Sine Non Qua was in the timing of the battle and the rebel basestar jumping away.

If they had said something more explicit about "Damage to the basestar's FTL brain" or something(aside from Elosha's comment about limping back home), I would have bought how long it took to get back. As it was, a bunch of Raptors from Galactica had time to make at least 2 round trips to the battle site.

What's more, in Sine Non Qua, there were a good many intact, but empty vipers... Sandman's, for example. What happened there?

And does it seem a little fishy to anyone else that the Cylons would have such an incredibly strategic target left so-unguarded as to be vulnerable from attack and destruction at the hands of one heavily-damaged Basestar?! A basestar without it's full complement of fighters!

Those points mar for me what was an immensely enjoyable episode.

Every time they make a point of Roslin's cancer, I find tears streaming down my face, but that's probably because my Dad has it too, and I know I'll have to face that scene myself some day soon.

I am really happy Bill and Laura have finally said what was left unspoken (well, Laura did...), maybe now Bill'll push those beds in his quarters together.

Anyone else feel sorry for the Eights? They all look like such fools now, and all the other Cylons ragging on them... plus where'd Athena2.0 get her jock smock? (pointless question, really. Where'd Baltar's Basestar couch come from, any of their clothes, Baltar's smock & Raptor combo, for that matter...)

I hope Boomer survived, but I can't see how. She used to be such an important character... Maybe when she ran off, she killed herself to ressurect on a ressurection ship instead of the hub. I'd say Cavil (if they have any control over these things) ressurected on another Ressurection ship too.

Either way, Boomer deserves a better seeing-off than simply running off when her creepy boyfriend is killed.

The effects were largely good, though racetrack carried the towing scene, she's so cool. I loved the Hubsplosion, with the beautiful plumes coming from it. Seeing Cylon missiles on colonial birds was nice too.

I gotta say, I didn't buy the whole "Cylon pilots" thing, especially since it's been established since Season 2 that Turkeys fly themselves unless you do a bit of surgery. Surgery I'd think the centurions would object to.

And was the Hybrid reading a manual for installing an Air conditioning unit at the end?

Actually it's been established since Season 1 that Cylon Raiders fly themselves. However, Cylon Heavy Raiders require pilots. That was established when Athena turned up to rescue Starbuck and Helo in one at the start of S2. The ships the skinjobs were flying in this ep were Heavy Raiders.

Another trailer for next week's episode here. Looks seriously grim.

Seems to chime with the spoilers:
That finding Earth is not the occasion for song and dance you'd expect it to be. I wonder if Adama is referring to something in particular whilst he's breaking down, or thinking of the 10,000+ people who've died since the pilot episode for what may be no reason?
the cylon pilots could have been sleeper agents on battlestars like valykrie or atlantia

as for next week here's what will probably happen
on earth (they walk out the raptor)
Rosylin "frak. we must taken a wrong turn at the nebula."
Lee "well there goes that plan. Baltar which way do you think earth is?"

Other than Athena and Boomer, the Eights are a pathetic bunch unwilling to commit to something strongly enough to understand what betrayal even is.  Athena Wannabe Eight didn't even put up a strong objection.  D'Anna was right, "... until they see something shiny."

On pilots flying Heavy Raiders, as Werthead also notes, that has been shown several times in the past few years without reference to doing a mega-lobotomy like needed with a Raider.  It is plausible that since it is a large transport that there is an option for a skinjob pilot to handle more complex issues than the pet pilot would be capable of.

Granted, Starbuck did mention something about intending to cut out the brain of the Heavy Raider she and the resistance were preparing ambush, but at that point she had never been inside a Heavy Raider, only a light Raider.  My guess is that the Heavy Raiders are dual mode: They can either fly autonomously, or under pilot control.  I'm wondering if that's why we see the #6 aboard Pegasus in Razor.  It was never explained why she would have been on a boarding mission of that sort.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!

Athena spent a year in a cage and went to New Caprica in order to gain what freedom she has now. I don't find it all that surprising that she didn't put up a struggle. She's technically part of the military too, so she falls under Roslin's jurisdiction. Pulling a gun on Helo wouldn't serve any useful purpose. The humans would never trust her, it could lead to the Cylons deserting or imprisoning all the humans onboard or launched from the ship, and she wouldn't be trusted by either side. She'd effectively be a triple agent, and the Rebels have already been burned by one traitorous Eight.
