do you still play online?
« on: May 07, 2008, 09:24:17 AM »
Hi, I've just installed and finished "Freespace 2".
I'd like to do some battle online, but I don't know if it's possible as the game is quite old.
Well, if you want to play, let me know
(i have to figure out how also)

You should find all the info here and here.

Also you might be interested into BSG which has more active players than good old Freespace 2 :)
For pictures & Videos check this. To get started with it have a look at this topic.

Ok, I'll follow those instructions, thanks

About Beyond Red Line:
-is the game freeware or shareware? I saw "download demo"
-I don't know anything about Battlestar Galactica.. :nervous:

Umm..I get 2 errors:
-"you have hacked tables" --> is it a problem if I'm using the 3.6.9?
-"failed to login" (?)

3.6.9 + media VPs will always give you a hacked table report. You can either play without them by selecting no mods or simply not worry about the error (many don't, it only affects your stats saving).

Not sure why it's failing to log in though. Where did you get the game from?

well...there are currently quiete a lot of people still playing BTRL...

the probably best way to find players online is the FS2 Net Games Viewer,
grab it here:

http://www.anetchat.prv.pl/freespace

Or the side BSGPilots(http://www.majesticsites.net/bsgpilots/) offering a launchtub chat with usually a few guys online looking for matches.
So good luck! Maybe we meet each other there!^^

Ouch..I've just uninstalled FS2Open after waiting some days.
I still have Freespace2 normal though: is it possible to install FS2Open above it? (to avoid downloading all the files again)

I tried the app suggested, but all people were busy and there were no games. I'll check again there and the forum

Not only is it possible, I see little reason to not do so. Installing FS2, copying the MVE cutscenes over and then installing FS2_Open saves a lot of time downloading.

I decided to preserve the original Freespace 2, so I copied all .vp files to the FS2Open folder (except root), then I launched the installer with the minimum things needed. The setup was fast and the game seems to run normally.

Now I wait for the players
(not too expert hehe)

Rather unnecessary. FSO doesn't interfere with a standard FS2 install in any way. You can install both to the same folder and simply pick which one to run depending on which launcher/exe you click on.

The only time you get problems is if you install either incorrectly. Installing FS2_Open on a clean FS2 retail install (i.e no mods) using the installer will get it right. :)

Yes, I found some players! We fought a pair of missions together yesterday.

The only problem is that we were 3 vs an entire army, so the outcome wasn't very nice hehe
Also AI is harder than normal game..

Quite fun though :D
Hope to play again!
