Any modelers out there?
« on: July 02, 2007, 11:37:41 PM »
Okay, I started a semi total conversion a bit ago, and I've gone as far as I can go in it without any new ships. So I need some modelers.

But first, A description of the project is in order!

http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,47871.0.html

There.

As you can see in the said thread, none of the ships are all that detailed. Most of the concept art I drew up is just a guideline. Like an outline and an essay. Where my art is the outline.

I do not plan for this project to visually look super-de-duper awesome, it's main focus would be on story and gameplay.

So, if you have any modeling and UV -- UVing experience PM or e-mail me. I think my e-mail is on my HLP pro, which is accessible through the link. E-mail would be the better choice, as I use it more often. So, yeah. As said on HLP, PLEASE don't make me go to Moddb for modelers/UVerers.

And yes, I have tried modeling and I do suck at it. I made that missile frigate in truespace out of like a million cubes. But then it broke.

Thanks!

EDIT: More on the gameplay!

Basically, the gameplay will feature capitol ships and stronger anti fighter defenses more. Fighters will be a little bigger than in normal Freespace, but much quicker and more maneuverable. Instead of being able to take down this game's equivalent of destroyers with a handful of bombers, you are going to need at least two wings of bomber-gunships (gunships will be discussed later) support, a few fire-support frigates, and multiple escort fighter wings. Almost all weapons now are ballistic, except for some small beam weapons.

I'm not quite sure about your modeling abilities, taka. But of course, I haven't really seen much of your work at all. I saw that GTBbeamity thing, but at first it didn't even have the "beam" flag.

If your actually serious (which I doubt you are, due to lack of PMing me or e-mailing me) send me some of your completed work, and I'll see.

don't let him do it... let him texture shine and glow maps, it's the only thing he is good at. (no offense Taka)

No, let him do it.

And if a model looks too bad, he'll simply have to redo it.
That's the kind of critism he needs to get better.

If he is really interested in modelling.

Just start with the most simple model and go more complex after that.

He's not good at that. He can just do it.

Takashi needs is something easy to do while he gets better at modding (what is easier then making shine maps? all you do is lower the brightness on the texture and colorize were needed). I've seen his newer stuff, he is improving, but he needs to learn the basics of models and textures before he goes out making big blimps.

Well, he hasn't PM'd me or anything. Unless he did so in the last 3 seconds. He hasn't even been active for a while. I hope I didn't scare him off by taking him seriously. :nervous:

He's supposed to be making "effects" especially fireworks for me...

Anis, or weapon effects like the old NOVA I posted in the RT section as an example. It makes the perfect Red/blue firework but needs other colors...

im not too fond of the curveature of the wings...and i still need to give it guns, a real cockpit, and engines.

Okay. You look competent enough to try one of the models.

http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/2722/revelation2sm3.jpg

This should hopefully be about the average difficulty for capitol ships. It's a strike carrier. That runway you see coming out extends to the back of the ship so a fighter should be able to just fly straight through it. It's symmetrical, so if a turret is on one side, it's on the other. The red dots are turrets and the blue dots are missile tubes.

Just post a picture when you make some decent progress.

Depends on what textures you're using. It should have a generally light gray color (like the color gray on the Fenris). If you plan on using the ones that look sorta plated (like the Aeolus) then it should be tiled.

If this post makes no sense, then you know why I'm not doing this myself.
