.... made with a Geforce 6600gt on a 2.66ghz dual Pentium 4 Xeon 2gb ram(game only used one CPU).....

Modern average computers would be able to tackle it. Its still a very early version of the model thats hasn't been made gaming friendly + Fraps, the game video capturing software, took half of the FPS count.

OMG ^^

If I'd known that, I would've shipped you my old 939 rig ;)

BTW, FS2 doesn't use 2 CPU cores, right?

Still, it is a really great video, considering the framerate.

Also, someone mentioned this before, the FLAK carpet could be beefed up a little, but not insanely so... I still want to have a chance to unload my nukes as a raider.:naughty:

Can you name a SPACE FLIGHT SIM thats successfully made such a battlefield playable? 30 capships!? C'mon, unless you have quad core computer with 2 SLI'ed graphics cards, such a set up is still unpractical and is straight up bad game design.

Even if the technologies support it wihtout breaking a sweat, such a battlefield would ultimately only serve as a backdrop for a fighter based game. BTRL is not an RTS, the Homeworld BSG mod Fleet Commander is probably the game you are looking for.

Even Gamecube's Rogue Squadron was very conservative on its treatment of the Endor battle by reducing the Imperial fleet to a 2d picture backdrop to the battle. The most 3d capships in the arena was 2 Mon Calimaris with 4 support ships (corvettes and frigates), yet it still captured the frantic nature of the battle.

BTRL is fighter sim/shooter, not a capship simulator (like Bridge Commander), not an RTS, and not a CGI animation. The assets will be made to suit our storyline and mission design needs, not the masses' desire to create an all duke out fest which will only result in an over heating graphics card and 2 fps slideshow.

I used to played X2 and that had numerous fleets engaging within the same quadrant.

i think the closest any game got to having huge capship battles was X-wing: alliance in the last missions, where the rebel fleet was joining up and you had to escort groups of 4-5 rebel capships being persued by 3-4 imperial ships.

If you have a mighty good computer Homeworld 2 can give you that, although when you pass 20 on 20 it gets silly :naughty:

Is it just me, or does it look like Galactica has a pair of Jeep grills just infront of the central engines, and between the engine pods?

I assume you mean the pod retraction rack gears (look like horinta ladders on the tops and sides of the outer pod arms)?
something I do understand;)  : http://www.nickslandrover.co.uk
