The voice acting is about to start. I lost the overview a bit. Who is doing the script for the general chatter?

And who would like to it, if nobody took over this task?

I'd suggest a native speaker...and I think AS would be the right guy for this job.

It is quite a bit of work though. This task also includes rewriting the messages.tbl (root.vp).

By general chatter, you mean the auto-messages that are sent when certain events happen, like kills and such?

Don't we have several different versions floating around the boards for that sort of chatter?

I'll go ahead and take a look at the messages.tbl.

What happens when there is an event that would occur regularly in SoL but not in FSO?

That would have to be done in FRED.


Yeah, I know we had some lines, which were... "ok".

I'd rather like you to do this very clean. One annyoing sentence is enough for people to blame us for it.

Well, no one really responded to some of the concepts we already had, so I wasn't sure how to react to that.

Now that it's clear you specifically want this to be a clean job, I'll be working on it.

EDIT: The messages.tbl is pretty straight-forward.

I do have some questions for someone who is familiar with the tbl though:
1) Will we replace the personas that are in the table already, or are we going to add in our own. From the looks of it, you can add as many personas to the list as you want, and I'm assuming you can get rid of the ones that are already there, and then you can just select them in FRED. Will it eliminate work if I just replace the existing ones?
2) Every single message has XSTR before the line. What does this refer to?
3) There is also a 4-digit number after the message. This is?
4) Both the comm anis and actual voice acting files will come later. Do I leave these fields blank until then?
5) There are many categories throughout the table. Are these simply for organizational purposes?

I have looked through the reference on messages.tbl in the wiki, so some of these questions I know the answer to. I would like confirmation, though. :)

1. We'll rename the first piltos to Peppy, Flaco, Slippy, Fox and add one or two cornerian pilots which might be needed. Command it Rob.

2. That's one for Wanderer. I know it. It's in some tables.

3. And that's the one for Axem. ;)
I guess that's the one for the game. So it calls up message: 2725
Or for FRED...

4. Yes, for now. I think Strike will put them in the table. He has his own naming concept for them.

5. Yes, ";;" lines won't get parsed. We should keep them anyway.

I have yet to look into the wiki for this... So some of my answers might be wrong. ;)

Ahem....

2) & 3) AFAIK the XSTR just pointers for the game that we are talking about strings (text) here. The number after it refers to translation texts (tstrings.tbl), all those numbers ought to be set to -1.

Like with "Command, we have secured the area.":
2725, "Command, wir haben das Gebiet gesichert."
