Hey, I'm pretty much new to this modding business but I could help you guys with some coding, know C++ and a little C. Are there any sites that give tutorials on modding with freespace?

Thanks, I'll try to help in any way I can, my AIM screen name is codename70.

Whoa, programming.... moon language. I thought the mystical glowing and loud mechanical box just works via electricity. :)

All the programming is takes place at the Freespace Source Code Project. This is the forums where the programmers chill and discuss stuff. http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=50

This is the site where the project is officially based. I believe the game's source code is also there. http://scp.indiegames.us/news.php

I believe those geniouses over there speak your mystical language. The BSG Project are one of many mods who simply put to use their genious efforts to uberize an 8 year old game to modern day standards.

It might be worth having a programmer who is biased towards the BSG project as you're probably going to need a few code changes anyway :)

As for the rest of the modding field check out the Wiki on HLP and the FAQ I link to below :)

who's doing the missions/storyline? if nobody is, I could work on that...I don't think I could actually MAKE the missions in FRED, but I could come up with a game story-line that goes with the series, mission objectives, etc...maybe even dialogue and anything else that needs writing (voice scripting, etc.)...I'm more of a writer than anything...

At this early stage, I move that all storyline progress be submitted for the critique and approval by the rest of the team.  It's not that I doubt the creative talents of whoever (singular or plural) writes the story...BUT I've seen some pretty cheesy stories come out...and two heads are better than one, three heads are better than two...etc...

I just want the story to follow in the new BSG universe well, and be AWESOME

It is a collaborative effort. Gai Daigoji already laid out story foundations. We are now reviewing/revising it for additions, subtractions, detailing. Believe me, I want this campaign to be similiar to Ron Moore's writing style. One person is soley not responsible for all of the script.

If you are a practiced writer and are familiar with finer points of story development (in an interactive context), PM us with a treatment for the teaser campaign.

We'll evaluate it and if it kicks ass, you're IN.

Timeframe: destruction of the 12 Colonies.

yeah, I figured somebody was probably working on the storyline already...but I'd still like to contribute if I can...what exactly do you mean by the 'teaser campaign'? would that be like a demo campaign or something else?

Yup, its a 6-8 mission demo to get the ball rolling. If you have story ideas, pitch them to us. We need more blood infused into this.

This is all I have ever done close to a plot. If you like it, I could try to help a little after watching BSG tommorow. :)
