I do have Xfire, we'll worry about names later. Until the 18th I will not have access to the T3 connection (VACATION BABY), so I'll be unable to host at that time. I can still join most likely, though even then I will have limited access this week. Sorry about that.

I think we also need to establish which timezone we're in. I'm in Eastern US.

That's a very good point!

I'm in the UK, so GMT for me...

I think Respenus is further east than me, so it's going to be interesting getting us all together lol

Lots of converting for me then.... considering GMT is an easy standard.

I'm GMT+1.

I don't have XFire and I can only plan on Fridays and Saturdays, if god allows and my parents are sound asleep.

I recommend we use FSOpen, as I don't have FS2 and everyone can download FSOpen easily.

don't worry respenus, I think the rest of us are all talking weekends only atm.

Agreed, FS2open should be the standard. I've got both anyways. There's a really good java-based installer for FS2open now that downloads all files and updates any that are already there. Took a couple of days to complete on mine (some BIG files) but nice and simple.

Respenus: Can you get and run xfire? is free to register and works with any headset etc, no firewall config needed unless you've got a very serious system at home! If not I can offer an alternative but most work in the same way.

Let me know either way!

Besides, on most modern computers FS2 has any number of problems (text-glitch) to random crashes. FS2Open also has FS2NetD which works wonders for connecting to people.

I'm not exactly sure how we're gonna communicate through Xfire... I've only used it a bit. Also until I'm back on my T3, voice comm will most likely be impossible. (Especially while playing games) 128Kb vs T3... yeah...

It's gonna be a while before I download FSOpen in full (big files). Why XFire? Wouldn't TeamSpeak be better?

Remind me to buy a new headset.

I'm not quite sure of the technical details of it all, so I can't really give a decent comparison, but I believe that xfire uses the same technology as Teamspeak when using voice communication. The advantage of xfire is that there is also the chat function, the ability to see who is online and who isn't, download files for your games using P2P technology, have in-game chat for those that don't have microphones, and a rather nifty function that allows you to just click on a friend and join the same server that they're on, rather than having to scroll through a list of servers trying to find the same one.

Just thought I'd throw in those points for those that didn't know.

agreed, all good points.

Teamspeak is viable, I am implementing a TS server on my webserver atm. However, the reason(s) i suggested xfire myself have all been listed by intrinsica.

Looks like I'm going to have to boot up Xfire again and start playing with it somemore. There's more to it than meets the eyes.

We also need to work out a time when we can meet as a squadron/wing... I can't keep it straight anymore. The four of us.

BTW, I'm generally on MSN/AIM.. so as long as you identify yourself and from where I'll add you to my contacts list.
