Looking for drawing assistance
« on: January 05, 2007, 07:20:52 PM »
First of all, I don't know if this should be in the Art section, so Mod move if you feel it's inapropriate.

I have a sci-fi book in the early process of making, but I do have a good idea on how the ships in my universe should work, their weapons, shields, propulsion, energy production,... Oh, I musn't forget NUKES!!! :pimp:

I must forget hand weapons and stuff, but let's leave it at this.

The reason I'm asking, is because I have the drawing skills of a blind headgehog (taken from Linux Format) and require assistance.

This will be all for now and I thank you in advance.

I'm going to describe the arment of the Liberator, the best ship in the fleet, something that applies for most of the ships with some modification.

Weapons:

Ship to ship laser system:
-Heavy laser weapons: used for taking down ship shields and capital ship fights.
-Plasma weapons: recent development, only a handfull of ships have been refited with this weapons. Plasma is fed directly from the fusion reactors and this process takes a good part of the reactors energy, limiting the ships offensive capabilities (The M/ARA system compesates for that)
-Flak: Used for taking down missiles and torpedos, this is a variation of the light laser. With more power then the regular fighter, the battleship can shot down most of incoming fire.

Missile system:
The ship is equiped with many missile laucher spread around it's hull. They are used primarely as anti-fighter weapons.

Torpedo system:
The battleship is armed with 8 front torpedo tubes, which are able to lauch any kind of torpedo. From the standard, high-yield, Mark IV Nuclear Torpedo or a Scientific probe.

Defense:
Shields:
The ship is protected by shields.

Armour:
The outer hull is thicker then the inner hull. Once the shields fail there is only a limited ammount of damage the ship can take, before it is destroyed.

Figher capability:
The Liberator can launch a squadron of any fighters from the lauch tubes. The landing area is hiden, leading to a big hanger bay. The landing are can be used for lauch of different types of craft (something similar to a Raptor) and modified fighters that can't fit into the lauch tubes.

Propulsion:
Sub-Light:
The ships uses impulse drive to move at sub-light speeds. Quite a straight forward thing.

FTL Travel:
The ships use jump points to move from one system to another. This is done by jumping at La-Grange points, where the power requirements are the lowest, but jump point do differ in complexity. The jump does not show on the outside design of the ship.

The characteristicts (this is spelled wrong) of all the ships in this universe, is that they are big hunks of metal floating throught space. Not as gracile as Star Trek, or even BSG. Something along the lines of the Wing Commander movie.

Hmm. I dunno that I'm the one to do illustrations of a ship such as this... as I tend to draw.... organic beings, and highly stylized ships (much like the ones I model). Utilitarian designs were never a strength of mine.

What kind of design are they?

Oh, and I just saw the links. When I saw the thread before, I though you left me spare space for me to fill in. Now I can't get in! Access Denied!

Ehm, was more predominantly examples of things I have done. When it comes to ships, I usually dont draw them, but model instead.... but characters are easier (sometimes). The links were of scrap images on my art account of things I've drawn. one had a crappy handgun, and the other 3 or so were more or less characters with light armor peices of sorts. 2 being more classical, roman-esque, and the last being... well, frivelous bits.

You wouldn't be able to make new weapons and uniforms, would you?
