Atlantia(WIP)
« on: December 18, 2006, 07:14:25 PM »
Ok, last try, maybe I can get it like everybody likes this time. I think the top view gives old BSG pwnage as well. :D

The look I'm going for is a trend toward Peg style plates, yet a look as they were added on, instead of being built in like the Peg. I will also be adding some ribs to this thing in some places.

If you would Starslayer, blend this head in with the back of second design and add a mix of old series greebles and new series plates.. ;)

Sorry for long response time, been frying bigger, more pertinent fish.

In away you have the hardest job modelling from the head as Scotchy and I have lots of references to work from. Ok, that top curved panel is the part that looks most non-BSG-esque. Neither the Peg or the Gal have curved panels like that, and it is quite prominent.

But before getting into detailing nuances, you should get the major structure down first. The only major differences between the Peg and Gal are their major structural configurations and their detailing is consistent.

I'm still quite partial to your original design for Atlantia, just its detailing that needs to tie in with Peg and Gal.  You should work with starslayer in desiging such detailing. Greebling is no easy task especially when designign from scratch.  What makes Peg and Gal greeblse work so well is that it's design does not appear arbitrary or even aesthetic. There is somethign about them that look practical. The Bsg and Peg should be your guide in its design.

Or perhaps if you tried to break up the top panel, I'd also like to see a perspective view if possible as it may be less apparent, you rarely see ships edge on, but definitely a promising start.

Well, the panels you see there are structure, not detail. ;)

Still getting the structure done, got a long way to go.

BTW, the pods are not like the Peg as they appear from the side, it has a small bay on the bottom made primarily for lunching fighters and it does not have anti-gravity, also in case the top bay is needed for something larger. Think of it as an X-version of the Peg's bay

The panelling and greebles, I agree are its weakest attribute. Like I said earlier, I still would like to see your v2.0 of your original mesh http://www.game-warden.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1988&d=1138577261, with TOS-esque flight pods http://www.game-warden.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1989&d=1138577261 without any form of greebling and paneling. All the meshes I have of her is with your jenga/lego style greebling. If u can hook me up with those pre detailed meshes or hook Slayer with some ortho renders, the detailing can can be collaboratively made to look more Bsg/Peg-like.

The basic shape, you're adding detail to, isn't smooth enough imho.

Fat butt bump, taking suggestions so shoot them at me. I'll most likely replace the side front panels.

Holy plate-butt batman!

Now comes the hard part of joining all those plates together with support beams and such.
