damn, let that be a lesson for everyone - never buy D-link routers.

Just set up your own server again, also nuke, could you see if you could extract the co-op missions from mv_core, that's where a lot of the multiplayer missions are, but the mv itself has tbms which break multiplayer :(

Assuming that I get the time to do it (maybe for 7dot9), I'm going to allow tbms to be used in multiplayer.  Only if the tbm modifies a critical item (like damage, range, charge rate, etc.) will it call hacked tables on you.  After that it should be safe to use the mediavps in multi games.

perhaps maybe we can have a balencing system in place, a mods table values are run through a formula of sorts to calculate the effectiveness of the weapon or ship. if a weapon or ship's overall effectiveness is within a certain tolerance it can be called balenced and is acceptable to use in multi.

perhaps it would be possible to automate the validation process so that modders may make their mods multi compatable without community review. make a check validity flag, which, when run with a mod will go over the data, check whats good, and give the modder a report of what needs to be fixed. if everyone knows the formula then it shouldnt be hard to tweak the mod till its valid.

That's way too much for 3.6.9 though.  I've already planned to redo how tables are validated/updated/maintained in the new PXO code, but the exact details of that are still in the earliest stages.

If it's not something that has to do with 3.6.9 then I don't give it any time or thought.  After 3.6.9 ships I'll have more than enough to do already, and the networking related stuff is rather low on that list.  So you'll just have to remind me about this again early next year. :)

Would be a nice feature, but don't you think it would be close to impossible to define such a formula? Ship/weapon balancing has been one of the strong, nearly perfected points in FS2, no doubt V did loads of play testing just for that purpose.
Cheers!

you really think [v] painstakingly tweaked every value in the game till it worked? no, i think they applied a general formula and tweaked the formula untill it rendered the most balenced result. of course we now have alot more weapon options to choose from, but that only requires a slightly more advanced formula.

oh by the way my servers going up now

Nuke, I was thinking about fighters and bombers where balancing is critical.
I guess capships could be handled by automation, as they aren't generally controlled by humans.
Cheers!
