Received Applications For Voice Actors
« on: September 24, 2006, 04:44:47 PM »
In this thread I will document all the voice actors that have tried out, as well as provide links so we can review them at our lesiure. We can discuss things here and have a broad look at who has tried out and have their samples all together in one handy-dandy little thread.

APPLICATIONS: OLDEST are at bottom, newest are at the top!!!.

If you can upload them as soon as possible, that'll be cool.

You can upload them using this temporary upload location:

(4) What character (or kind of character) do you think you would play best? Why? I don't really care what role I get (if any) because i have never done voice acting or compared my voice to any starfox character.

(5) Do you consider yourself a good voice actor? Why? I have no experience so I have to say I am probably not very good.  This is purely for the hell of it, It wouldn't bother me if I don't get a role.  Its always fun just to try out.

(6) Anything else we should know about you? Tell us!
I am a very good live actor with a 96 in my dramatic arts class, so I can play emotions like Shaq can play basketball. I really like starfox, I am wearing my broken Starfox watch as I type this.  I would love to get a role in this game, no matter how miniscule it might be.

(4) What character (or kind of character) do you think you would play best? probably an anti-hero, like a good guy who cares for the cause, but doesn't seem to care about much else.  That or a bad guy.
Why?  I don't think my voice is high enough or crisp enough for a "hero" voice.  Mine is kind of deeper and raspy
(5) Do you consider yourself a good voice actor?  I'm probably on par with the average person submitting auditions.
Why?  I'm inexperienced, but I believe I can "act" the voice once I know the context of the character's situation.
(6) Anything else we should know about you?

Hello.

I am writing in regards to the voice acting auditions.  I know I am last-seconding it, but I didn't even know about this until I saw it on digg this evening.  I must say that from watching the trailer, I am very, very impressed.  You guys are doing something incredible.  Please accept my kudos and pass them on to everyone on your team!

I would like to contribute to this project some way, but unfortunately, I don't know anything about texturing or effects :(   I have, however, a bit of entertainment in my background.  I've been the lead in several plays and musicals in and after high school

I know since it's so close to the deadline, you probably already have all your voice actors chosen, but I thought I'd throw my name into the hat anyway.

While I am inexperience in voice-acting, I believe I'm pretty good at "live acting", having been a lead in every play I was ever in.  As stated above, I believe once I know more about the situation the character is in, I can move to "in-character" and capture that in audio form.

I've also been in bands and been doing home recording for several years.   I have some good recording equipment, so I'm not just using Windows Sound Recorder and a $10 PC microphone.  However, the samples provided were recorded with a dynamic mic.  In the upcoming weeks, I'll be purchasing condenser microphone for my home recording, so that will sound even better.  I also have a several pieces of equipment that can add many effects to my voice.

Here is where you can listen to my audition samples:
http://hesserjr.carl.googlepages.com/voice_auditions.html

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for taking the time to listen to my voice samples.  I hope you will consider me for any characters still open.

Thank you very much and good luck to you and your team with this project.  I can't wait to play it!  (beta testing.... *wink* *wink*)  Please let me know if there is anything I can do or contribute to this project.

Cordially

Carl Hesser

Hey there, I just stumbled across the site today via Digg.  I'm a Professional Writing Major, Visual Communications Minor student in my Junior year at York College of PA.  I've always had an interest in voice acting, and I'm also a fan of Star Fox, so I figured I'd give this a shot.  Pardon the crappy quality, I don't have a good mic, but I would be able to get access to a better one for further recording if I get a part.

My info:

(2) Email:  Proudtobeageek@gmail.com
(3) Age:  21
(4) What character (or kind of character) do you think you would play best? Why?  I'm usually good at doing more eccentric type characters, but I am always willing to try anything
(5) Do you consider yourself a good voice actor? Why?  I consider myself as someone with potential as I have never actually done voice acting before, other than a crazy Italian chef in a short play.  That was a huge success though.
(6) Anything else we should know about you? Tell us!  I am a very unique individual
(optional) Please list any voice acting experience and links
I've also included a couple princess bride impersonations I recorded some years ago for my own enjoyment.  I did all the voices.

Greetings. I'd be very interested in helping this project out in the vocal department.  I came upon this site after seeing the bit that Kotaku put up (I imagine you've gotten a ton of traffic as a result of that).

I've had some voice acting experience before, doing voices for Oblivion mods.  Sadly, none of the people that I worked with actually published their mods, so I can't give you an in-game reference. However, I archive all the lines that I do so if you'd like to hear those on top of what you requested in your thread, I'd be happy to oblige.

Here are the lines you requested. Many of them have the line repeated a few times, with different inflection going each time. (Not knowing what the motivation/situation is, it's kinda difficult to pick just one way to say stuff). In addition, I've put a couple links to some stuff I did for the fun of it, and also links to some of the voiced I did for the Oblivion mods.  These use reverb to give a demonic or ghostly sound, depending on the character. I know you only said "two" links, but I feel like I should present enough evidence to show that I'm capable at what I do.

Please PM me with any comments or reactions. I'm definetly a StarFox fan, esp. Starfox 64, so anything that I can do (extras, bad guys, main characters, etc.) I'd be happy with.

Thanks for your time. Links below.

(4) What character (or kind of character) do you think you would play best? Why? (4) What character (or kind of character) do you think you would play best? Why?
I don't know, really. I can do a fairly good "heroic youth" voice, so I could probably do Fox. I can also do a nice gruspy (is that even a word) villain/antihero kind of voice, so... I don't know, really. Throw me anywhere you see fit!
(5) Do you consider yourself a good voice actor? Why?
Fairly good, I guess. I have some alright range (and some strange voices available) and I think I do a pretty good job of saying my lines with feeling, so... PRETTY GOOD, I THINK.
(6) Anything else we should know about you? Tell us!
Not really, other than that... I hope to one day be a voice actor, and I'm hoping to get some practice. :P Especially since I specifically desire to voice games and TV shows... this would be an interesting project for me.
(optional) Please list any voice acting experience and links
I do have a little bit of voice acting experience- though it's not so much been actual voice acting as much as it's been normal acting in plays and such. (I've done two so far, and people keep telling me my voice is great...) So... this would be my first real voice acting thing.
I hope you don't mind if I throw them in a .rar to save space - I have quite a few things in there, and some of the clips have very odd voices. I decided to just try a wide range of things to demonstrate what I can (and can't, haha) do. XD

Hey! I only recently (somewhere around oh say, yesterday) came across this fan-game, and am 'thuroughly' impressed with what I've seen so far. It looks like a totally promising project that I'd love to see finished. Having done fan-game work in the past (though nothing on quite 'this' scale...), I know what it takes to get a project like this ready.

But since I saw you're still accepting voice applications, and I 'do' love Star Fox, I figured I'd try a shot at this.

1) Screen Name: HEDGESMFG
(2) Email: smoellering@bradley.edu
(3) Age: 21
(4) What character (or kind of character) do you think you would play best? Why? - This is actually a bit tough, as I really don't have my heart set on anybody specific. Based on previous experience, I think I do best with characters that are loud and boastful, or outright sarcastic and are a bit of a jerk, or downright villians, but I really can't say specifically. I'd say the only characters I'd 'really' struggle with and know I'd have a hard time pulling off would be Slippy or Peppy!
(5) Do you consider yourself a good voice actor? Why? - I certainly consider myself an aspiring one who's trying hid damndest at the whole thing. Voice work is something I'd seriously like to do on a professional level, but I suppose weather or not I'm truly good depends upon the listener. ;P From my own experience, I know I'll give almost anything a try and have fun with it. It's something I really enjoy doing.
(6) Anything else we should know about you? Tell us! - To add on to the last point, I'm currently a communications (Radio/TV) major that's aspiring to try to get into the industry, and I've at least had some minor academic success with my voice work (aside from side-time projects I've done over the years). I love Star Fox, particularly 64, and beat the snot out of the game with all medals in both normal and expert, so you couldn't find a more enthused fan for a project like this!

Star Fox Sampler:
http://www.geocities.com/hedgesmfg/Star_Fox_Sampler.wav
I didn't put too much variation in these voices, or their dialects, but just decided to try the lines as I felt was most appropriate. I could try more with a specific dialect, but for now, this is just a 'very' general sampler of my voice.

Previous Project 1:http://www.geocities.com/hedgesmfg/Elf-Wars_ENGLISH.wav

This first project is, quite literally, something I threw together in my spare time just the other day. It's an english adaption of a short segment of one of the audio dramas for the backstory of the Capcom game series, Mega Man Zero, and both the characters X and Zero from the respective Mega man series are portrayed in this. I tried to recreate an english version of this short sample as well as I possibly could, and both voices are mine, but I had to take some short-cuts when OST song length was giving me some trouble. Even so, I'm pretty happy with the results. I did the editing as well. (For comparison, the original Japanese version can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/hedgesmfg/RTRZTelos-2-10-Retrospect1_Elf-Wars.wav)

Previous Project 2: http://www.geocities.com/hedgesmfg/OTAKON06small.wav

This is the audio for a skit I did with my group for the Masquerade at the anime convention, Otakon. It's based off the original Gundam series and a classic SNL sketch with a few other random Gundam/pop culture references thrown in. Of the 6 voices heard in this, 4 of them are my own. The only ones not being mine being the girl's voice and the one liner "I don't even know anymore." I also did the editing work. Heh, I don't know if you guys will get the context of what's happening, but if you want to see the original skit to have a better idea what's going on, check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZ17MSfdjJA)

Anyway, sorry for making this thing so lengthy, and good luck with your project! Also, sorry that I don't have anything better than the crappy Geocities webspace right now, but if the bandwidth runs out, just try the links again in 30 minutes.

What character (or kind of character) do you think you would play best? Why?
I believe my voice has a very emotional, humanisitc quality to it.  I believe I would do a better job portraying someone who is very emotional in nature, such as Fox or Falco.  Both have a tendency to have their emotions get the best of them, which I feel I have that ability.

Do you consider yourself a good voice actor? Why?
While not having any direct voice acting experience, I feel like I am a good voice actor.  I have been acting almost my entire life, and I have also been a singer for quite some time.  I believe my ability to add real emotion and subtext to lines is what makes me a good voice actor.  My experiences in theater have taught me have emphasis and inflection can change the meaning of certain sentences or lines.  Subtext also has a great deal of meaning in context of the story.  I believe a good voice actor must understand these points to properly portray a character.

Anything else we should know about you? Tell us!
I have been singing in a band for a number of years named "Seamless Transit"
It has allowed me to work on inflection and a number of other vocal talents, which I feel can help properly reflect my voice acting talents.

http://www.myspace.com/seamlesstransit

I also currently act in something we refer to as an "internet TV show" called "Skewed..."  This can properly show how my voice can come through in an acting scene and how I can interact with others.

http://www.skewedtv.com

I feel this could be a great opportunity to help me break into the voice acting industry, as many companies require direct voice acting experience before you can acquire an audition.

The vocal takes you all have asked for I have posted here

Thank you for your consideration.

Screen Name: Star Yoshi

E-mail: yoshimaster451@gmail.com

Age: 13 going on 14

Character Choice: I think that I would play Falco best, not only because I know his character well, but because I am very much like a hotshot in real life *no argument from family watching me type this* who often has a bad knack for biting off more than I can chew. I also feel that my voice is most comfortable in his mocking tone and would make it easier for me to relax and enjoy my character

My Opinion: I am probably not the best voice actor out there, this I know, but when I work on these kinds of things, I really immerse myself into the character and have (on occasion) actually BECOME the character in all ways others have seen. My voice is leveling out and therefore would not cause voice-cracking problems as well as the fact that my environment helps me to get a feeling of immersion (ergo, the way my life has gone, I have an easier time being someone else other than myself >>)

Anything Else?: Yes, in fact. I've taken part in multiple in and out of school plays so I have experience in this kind of field. I have also done multiple productions which involve me taking on the role of someone much older *Mr. Parris from StarTrek Voyager* as well as being part of a space-oriented cast. I've kind of earned the nickname "Drama King" from my peers and it's kinda grown on me. I enjoy having fun with my work and I really think I would be a great addition to the SOL team (or voice team... w/e ^_^)

Thank you for taking time to look over my application. If you would like me to edit any of my works (like make something louder or deeper or w/e) just tell me and I'll get right on it.

Thanks again ^_^

Star Yoshi

P.S. If you guys need help finding music, I can help in that area

VA Form

Hi, I'm Psygonis, the last newcomer of the team. As I said in my first PM to DaBrain, I'd like to try VA so, here is my form to cast up. ;)

*Screen Name: Psygonis

*E-mail: psygonis@lylatwing.com

*Age: 18

*Range of Character: I don't think that I could match the official characters voices. So I'd rather try to perform one of the character / NPC created in the game. I'll give exemples at the voice samples section...

*Skills: Well... Quite hard to say! I've never performed any role as a VA. But yet, I've got an easy-modullating voice. I usually imitate other persons, like my relatives, teachers or known people. My english is fluent, as my teachers used to say about me and I usually practice it because of my studies and hobbies. It may not be a good point, but I also think that it could be interesting: I'm french so I've got a certain accent, but you'll notice that yourself soon... ;)

*Self Introduction: Nothing to add now, but I'll be glad to answer your questions by PM, Mail/MSN or IRC. ^^

*Samples REQUIRED:
Each sentence have at least one track.
The X-X ones use a voice that could suit the character I've made in the concept art thread: Nolan SWIFT. I should improve the tone, but my pretty low mic is quite annoyingly unworthy... ^^'
With a X-Xb, it's a more light-voiced character.
The X-Xc are bound to a funny type of character. Imagine a french-speaking aristocratic General! But speaking english!

The .zip file's here:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/55bc74/

That's all for today. I hope it will be usefull for you...
So ++ and good luck,
Maxime / Psygonis.

(4) What character (or kind of character) do you think you would play best? Why? A secondary or villanous character. Whilst I have no problems playing a lead, I am uncomfortable imitating an already instituted characters (such as Fox or Falco) voice. I prefer an unknown or villain so I can flex my vocal muscle a bit.
(5) Do you consider yourself a good voice actor? Why? Yes!! From the producers I have auditioned for and from my work in college and high school, I feel I am an excellent voice actor. Producers have commented in like.
(6) Anything else we should know about you? Tell us! Nope nothing!

Putfile isn't loading for me so I will send you my audition as soon as it does. I have already recorded the audition so please bear with me.

Hi there, Strike. Heh heh, I hope I didn't intimidate ya too much with my post over on the voice acting forums. There's a heap of great talent there, we're just really big on audition protocol for various reasons.

I'm far too interested in this project to just let it slip by me though.

Sooooo.... http://media.putfile.com/D-Mac---Starfox-voice-demo

Above is an mp3 clip I recently put together of myself speaking in various Star Fox 64 character voices.
Though I, umm... admittedly went somewhat overboard with the additional audio mixing in this.

Nonetheless, I'd be glad to voice any characters in this project whenever you come to your final decision on casting.

Regards,

~D-Mac

- I would probably be my best as a villain. I have a deep voice and normally on Nintendo games, villains have a deep voice.
(5) Do you consider yourself a good voice actor? Why?
- I wouldn't say I'm a good voice actor. There are so many flaws in my acting style that a teacher would get a headache. I am not used to record lines where you need to shout, like dying lines. Also since I'm from Finland, my accent prevents me from doing roles which require an English accent.

So, there is a lot of areas where I need to improve.

Well, I've never done it before, so I guess that would be a no. I never considered my voice something that could be someone else's but I'm willing to try my best at getting my character right. It would be a fun learning experience for me too.

Would this be all voice actors, or just non-privy voice actors? Do you want me to send in stuff again?

Since you've come up with a completely new and organized form for voice acting, would you like me and any of the other team members to go through the process?

No no no. Sorry for not clarifying!! Everyone's that has already done mission zero do not need to record anything for the try outs. There's no need to try out. :) I really thought the people we had that were doing voices have all done a really great job so far!

So yeah, just to say it again, if you already recorded anything, you don't need to go through the process again everybody. Sorry, my bad for not explaining this earlier. :)

Haha, don't get all worked up now. What I meant in asking is that I probably wanted to try out another character too, say, Pigma. Well, since you don't need to hear all the lines in your form, what exactly would you like to hear when someone is trying out for a specific character?

EDIT: Looks like DB has German buddy now :)

Umm, I personally find that his samples are not emotive enough. He's probably hoping for more, but I think he would suit a generic character, either Cornerian or baddy, if any at all.

New Try out up! He's not bad, I could definitely see him as a brash young baddie, possibly even Andrew if you wanted StarWolf, but meh. Let's see what else comes our way.

Before we start adding people to the board, let's see who else we can get to try out. We've only been taking tryouts a little while. We'll soon get a huge influx of people trying out, increasing our .. "talent pool."

Speaking of, now that we have a tryout form and protocol, can I go out and advtertise our project's need for voice actors at voice actor communities? Tons of talent there.

Yes, I think that would be a good course of action. It'd also be good to try out the HLP voice actor subforum.

Well, unless someone is really adamant about getting a specific character part, I don't think they'll go full force and try to emulate that character. I think maybe if you bring up the idea that they may fit for a character, they might try to change their attitude and make it more similar.

At least for now, Star Wolf characters are not priority. They don't show up until a few missions later. I'll try my hand at Pigma though :)

Also just a thought: we're attracting a primarily younger audience, so getting together a group of older, more mature people would increase our talent spectrum greatly. Older people tend to have a better idea of what acting and getting into character is.

agreed. I think we can easily find some older actors. I mean, we are still in desperate need of a Peppy. hehe.

Also, if you know some good voice actor forums, then by all means, drop a link by and let them know we are recruiting. I'm sure we all know different areas. :) I'll try to drop some links by at some voice over communities, by all means, please advertise if you feel the need, or tell me the link and I can do it. :)

Hey, millon's pretty good, actually. I don't see him doing an Andrew voice because well, Andrew's a bit more nasally. But as I said earlier, people are more inclined to use their own voice rather than getting into a character at this stage. He's got some emotion in there, which is great. Try to see if he can't imitate some character voices. Actually, it would be better that when someone wants a specific character part, they need to record samples of their desired character.

I want to mention that once we have actors, we'll need to make sure all of them are recording with the same sort of technique, making sure to take care of things like popping noises or breathing into the microphone. We should definitely cover that.

well, I'm hoping that most good voice actors will recognize pops and clicks, clipping, and bad recording quality....

I mean, if anything, finding someone with high quality samples like that is evidence of someone who really gives a rat's ass and has learned about quality and stuff. . . . . yeah, we cannot have any of that lo-fi stuff... at all.
