Come on guys! In the world of Game development, that drawing could very well land him a J.O.B. It's great and like omni said (in a nut shell) well drafted. If your having trouble seeing it, save the image and put it into Photoshop. Then proceed to adjust the gamma towards the darkside. Whala! The only flaw is, like serveral have mentioned, the cockpit. It is just a little off, but it doesn't batter the design any.

Sweet ship dude.

In reply to #1

It's a nice looking ship but seems a bit heavy to fit into the Viper category.  Heavy weapons and such are part of what Raptors were designed to haul arround.  Would work as a custom or limited production vehicle.
Besides, it might be a bit too big for standard Launch tubes, meaning it would have to take off from the landing bay.  That would hamper deployment in combat.

Looks good though.

Dude you can draw, cool designs, and I like seeing all the detail.

Of course I can't draw a stickman without a ruler, so my opinion may not mean much to anyone else.

You know, i'm going to sit down and take a crack at drawing up some escort cruisers, light carriers and intermediary Vipers myself. Seems like somewhere in between the 2 and 7 there would have to be a long range strike bomber.

hmm. i thought the viper mk * really denoted different versions of the same viper (like different years of the same car)... so i would think that all the viper mk * would perform the same role?

not too sure on that, though--just how i perceived the mk II and mk VII.

regardless of that, i think that is an awesome ship design! i used to sketch (mainly mecha), but i could never load as much detail as you have! that's just incredible. i'd like to see it in BTRL (hopefully soon? :])

oh, i used to play starlancer. it's got some crazy physics--almost opposite to x-wing alliance. i thought it was an okay game... i read an amazon product comment on it where the guy complained it was impossible to beat on the easy difficulty.

i laughed.

I'm with Frost on this one. The Viper is a space-superiority fighter, that's what it does. That's what the Mk1 did, it's what the Mk7 does. It's versatile, but you're not going to see a bomber version. I'd imagine they'd use a Raptor for that, or a dedicated bomber craft.

Agreed... an interceptor/space-superiority fighter... erm...more an interceptor, I think. :)
So... Lets call it something else. The bomber is a different modell line, a different craft.

Looking at the way we've seen a Raptor used Iw ould think it would make a lousy strike fighter. Any Ideas on what would've made up a pre-Armageddon air wing?

I agree with Timbo. If we need to "invent" some kind of ship, it better be a bomber. Now, if a bomber belongs to a different class, we can't call it a viper, or raptor, but we can call it a Hawk, Barracuda, Mustang, Hellseeker, Dragon ... whatever, something that sounds big, furious and agile at the same time ...

Well it is difficult to say what it was actually comprised of.  Galactica was being decomisioned, however, Pegasus was on active duty and has only vipers.  On the other hand Pegasus was getting ready for a major refit.  In the US Navy generally a carrier's air wing moves to a Naval Air Base when she is in port.  It could be argued that some elements of Pegasus' flight group had been reasigned while she was going to be in the yards.  More then likely their are fewer bomber squadrons and keeping them active might mean they were pulled when 62 was going to be off the line.  There are some holes in this threory i know but it does give you a little lee way as to what you can have in the Colonial navy.

"Mark V" My concept wasn't really to be a straight stick bomber either but more of a fighter bomber there are big multirole fighters out in the world allready.  An F14 is a big plane its almost as big as the big four engine bombers from Willie Willie Deuce.  And having variance between a model line isnt out of the question either.  There are tons of variations on the F16 two seaters, delta wings, forward swept wings, canards you name it.  The Super Hornet is a practically new bird from the older versions.  Plus plenty of fighters have been turned into bomb trucks just look at the F15E.  Actually the Mark VII bomber concept i have going is kinda of "Stike Eagled."

But really if its that big a deal we can call it the Mamba, Python or Gardner Snake;)

Hehe lol. I understand what you mean, and you're certainly right within such fighter-bomber concept. Just a thought though, there's not such BIG visual change when you make a F-15 become a bomber instead of a fighter. It would probably be added some extra fuel tanks and more missile pads. Of course i'm being a bit minimalistic here, but my point is a whole new class of ship which are missing in the colonial navy: bombers.

Perhaps a varient of the Raptor Gunship with it's ECM suite removed and beef-ier engines installed?  Heavier chin turret, dedicated bomb bay as well as defensive use missiles on the under wing hardpoints.

Would that fit the bomber role? :biggrin1:
