Viper Mark V er IV er somthin
« on: April 18, 2006, 03:16:17 PM »
Well i took a break from my usual doodling and drew a Viper concept that would fit somewhere between Mark II and Mark VII.  Since i figure the Mark II is roughly analogous to the F86 Saber and the Mark VII is an F16 i kind of shot for an F4 Phantom feel.  This one is more of a fighter bomber then a straight stick dogfighter.  I made it a 2 seater cuz i like having a RIO in the back yelling :hoppingma .  The fuselage is thicker and wider so that it can fit six to 9 heavy missiles(in triple hard point mounts)  as opposed to the Mark II's two.  Plus it has 4 KEWs for strafing, basically i wanted something to blow the shit out of basestars and heavy raiders yet still able to play with raiders after its loosed its heavy ordinance.  This is a Boom and Zoom bird so its a little faster then a Mark II but not quite as maneuverable.

Well I hope you guys are interested(Or at least not repulsed by its repugnance).

You caught my attention. Nice draftsmanship :) . I like the direction you're headed with the mk V. Please continue brainstorming designs for the inbetween MK vipers. Perhaps a bomber design for the MK7 generation of Vipers.

It looks good, but tone down the detail a bit. At certain points you lose the shape of the ship in all the greeble-ness.
If you want your bugs fixed and features added, you gotta get us coders! See the help wanted thread if you want to help out!

Real ships don't have greebles!

jk!

I like the design once you get past the details.

Not bad at all, quite nice design, but bit too much details/decals/whatever, canopy could have some work also. Clean her up from all the make up and she'll be ready for service.

Trust me when I say that I've seen a lot of "ideas" for other Mark * Vipers and most of them are just lame. :(

Anyone on here play / played StarLancer? alot of the ships in that game resemble revisions of WWII aircraft.

I'm not an experienced space-simer, but I played that one.

If I recall correctly, the Shroud design from that game closely resembled the new Raider, right? Not so good as a game, but awesome general feel and 3D animation between missions... really good for getting you into the right mood. I love it how the Reliant = Galactica basicly.:)

StarSlayer, as everyone said - give us the basic shape without the bells and whistles, I think your design has a lot of potential. And stick with the pencil, it looks good enough.

yep - nothing beats sketching with pencil, except charcoal, but i always end up egregiously dirty from charcoal, and it's not so good for exact lines.

I have rarely used charcoal since the Art Academy... can't beat the huge formats and live models. Eagerly awaiting my Wacom Intuos 3 right now...

Wacom Intuos 3 is awesome. Friend of mine over in ILM uses one for building textures, he gave me a demonstration last time I was in LA, California - Needless to say I was rather impressed.
