map file wierdness
« on: April 03, 2006, 04:24:41 PM »
I just did a clean install of FS2, as per the stickies. I went to run a PXO game just to verify everything was good, and EVERY map was not recognized by PXO, and stats would therefor be saved (this was before the hosting stat warning).
My tables pass inspection on signing into PXO and joining a game.

Is this an unusual phenomina, or should I be doing something wrong?

Exactly what I did:
Install FS2. Run FS2. Quit and update with retail patch.
copy tom's old build over origional fs2.exe. Install launcher. Run and configure.
copy fs2netd config file to fs2directory\data

I did nothing else, and it SHOULD be working properly.

I assume he means FS2NetD rather than PXO.

Which missions are turning up as invalid? The ones that actually came with the game? By invalid I assume you mean that the little :V: head icon isn't next to the mission name right?

if the missions arent comming in valid then you dont have the right mission versions. You can get the mission package here. This contains all missions created and validated, along with some addon voice.

BTW a map is a texture that goes over a model, not a mission :p

Sorry for the term confusion, i hail from the land of FPSs, where map is the level, texture is the texture, and shaders are all the fancy effects on top of shaders :)

Well, specifically i have no 3rd party missions yet, the ones that I'm getting the error with are all the ones that come with the game straight from the retail CDs. And i was saying PXO because that's how everything in the game calls it :P

Totally unrelated question: the options menu has voice in it (voice chat) and with tom's build it works when you hit "test". How do you use this in game?

the voice chat doesnt work anymore. When you try to use it, it screems in your ear.

Really? hmmm... I did have trouble getting the voice chat test to work, ran dxdiag, then went back to the test, and it was all good. However, I've never tried Voice in game. Looks like Skype, Messenger or some other VoIP is the way to go then.

The voice test? When I first ran it, it certainly squeled and screamed at me, but I could just make out my voice, so I figured I'd check the direct sound settings. Run DXDiag, and in the 'Network' tab there's an option for 'DirectPlay voice options', I ran through the voice setup and test there, and when I went back into FS2, the voice test came through quiet, but clear.

If that's not what you were referring too, my bad! ;)

Well it does work in the game options menu (the test), and NOT with SCP.

But I can't seem to find a key to activate it in game...

to talk IN GAME you hold down 1 to send the message to all, 2 to friendlies, 3 for enemies, and 4 for target. same buttons are for text messages, only dont hold down the buttons. press ` (button next to 1) to talk in briefing and debriefing.
