Invisible servers? and other probs
« on: March 26, 2006, 04:23:53 PM »
I was trying to multiplayer game working and run into several probs. This is perhaps the most important..

multi.log entry:
Code: [Select]
03/26 17:57:27~   FS2netD sent PING
03/26 17:57:27~   FS2NetD received PONG: 94 ms
03/26 17:57:30~   Network (FS2OpenPXO): Got 2 servers.

03/26 17:57:30~   Network (FS2OpenPXO): Attempting to send_server_query()'s

03/26 17:57:30~   Network (FS2OpenPXO): send_server_query(217.113.238.166)

03/26 17:57:30~   Network (FS2OpenPXO): send_server_query(81.14.189.150)
So there were two servers according to the multi.log... however ingame (in lobby) i could only see a single game. And the other was nowhere to be seen.

I also hit this when trying to debug some other problems
Code: [Select]
Assert: Net_player->flags & NETINFO_FLAG_AM_MASTER
File: c:\fs2_open\code\network\multimsgs.cpp
Line: 4922
[This filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable]

Any ideas or any help?

I got both (7808 & 7117) ports forwarded on my router so it technically should work I think :nervous:

Is that with FS2NetD or with an IP game? Cause I've experienced exactly the same thing in an IP game.

With FS2NetD and using relatively wide variety of CVS builds... That is SoL is using most recent CVS builds but this problem has occurred also earlier. On one occasion multi.log reported three servers of which i knew that one was hosting SoL multiplayer test using exactly the same build i was using and in lobby i saw no servers at all :(

I'm refering to FS2NetD games; I've been told ip games work only on a seperate clean install.

That's not true. I've played several IP games using the same folder I use for everything else.

If you install clean and tidy in the first place you avoid all these kind of problems. That's why I wrote the installation guide in my FAQ :)

toms build cant see retail games, and SOMETIMES FSOpen can see retail games. But the only way you can play retail is over IP. Hopefully the bug that doesnt allow FSO to see retail games will be fixed for PXO. As far as NetD is... erase the registry for freespace 2 (using REGEDIT) and uninstall freespace 2, then reinstall. This is the only thing i can think of. however, you can seriously screw up your computer if you delete the wrong thing in REGEDIT, so make sure you delete the right thing.
