There are a few free 3D modeling programs out there. There's Blender (quite powerful, but has a large learning curve), Wings3D (simple, though it lacks some advanced features), and also a free version of Maya (though its a little tricky to export).

Blender
Wings 3D

The “free” version of Maya is the Personal Learning Edition (PLE). The only way to export a model is though UnrealED (the editor program for the Unreal engine).

I would like to join this project I'm really interested.

Texture Artist
Concept Artist
Maybe some modeling of new ships.

Just send me the model+targa UV file and I will texture it

Just tell me what maps you need like texture/bump mapping/ect

In the  - Shadows of Lylat is looking for a texture artist! - thread (that you have posted in), is a test ship to texture. It is already UV mapped.

Here is the updated file:Download
500kb

It contains a newer UV layout map, id colour map and an ambient occlusion map.

Three formats - Wavefront - Wings and Blender.

Mainly need a colour map. You could also do a shine and glow map. From the list you supplied they are Diffuse, Specular level and Self illumination

If you need a hand just post to the - looking for a texture artist! - thread
We will be happy to help with any questions. ;)

I have some bad news looks like I wont be able to help you guys on the project for the time being. im posting using my bro's laptop XD

Looks like my computer broke (says my clock was dead so I replaced it but still had problem). So I may end up buying a new computer but I may just wait for the windows vista/DX10 cards.

It really sucks as im starting classes next week and I may need my comp for some work. IWish you guys the best of luck on the project.

So I just hope when I do get a new comp and transfer all my stuff you guys may stll need modeling/texturing ;).
I wanna cry :shaking:

Yeah this seems to be a Starfox thing - Several of the guys had parts of their machines do the same. :hoppingma

Once the demo is out then there is more work to finish the game. So we may see you again.

Alright my PC works, bought a new PC clock restarted several times now and it boots up perfectly.

I have moved all my project files onto my backup drive just in case my comp does die all the files will be saved.

:wtf: At my PC for randomly booting up right and then for no reason at all not working.

clocks are not needed. you can get along if you can remove the file that notes it as a requirement. just like a mouse.

Umm It's a hardware clock - works off a crystal. Machine won't boot without it.
