People, places, and things.

In 2371, a new nebula was discovered near a stablilized node in Wolf 359. The nebula housed high concentrations of rich gas, most of which could be used for gas mining. Tensions were high when it was first discovered, people thought the Shivans would swarm out and reign destruction on Wolf 359. Inside the nebula, many sporadic sensor signatures were found, suggesting something was lurking in the nebula. These signatures were named Sensor Ghosts. The Sensor Ghosts were the suspected culprit in atleast 5 lost ships, 3 eventually found their way back, while 2 others were never found. After 6 months of regular patrols and scans, no Shivans or evidence of Shivans were ever found. The nebula was opened up to the public for mining or other activities.

Because of Metus' unique sensor cover, it became a haven for illegal cargo depots and meeting places. Although it made it hard enough for the criminals to find their way there or back. Numerous powerful nav buoys help guide miners and science ships from getting lost, while also attracting pirates waiting in the shadows.

It is not recomended that any ships enter Metus without proper escort from either the GTVA (very expensive), Mercenary groups (quality is proportional to price) or even Pirate Bands (caveat emptor).

Founded: 2368?
Leader: Unknown
Flagship: WCD Genocide (Modifed Orion class Destroyer)
Members: 30,000+
Fleet Size (Estimated): 2 Destroyers, 3 Corvettes, 10 Cruisers, 15 Transports, 10 Squadrons (120 Fighters)

Background:
At first the Wraiths were called Fleet Zero and led by an unknown supposed ex-GTVA Admiral. After Capella, Fleet Zero began to pray on the disillousioned people of the GTVA. They offered them a target for what had happened in Capella. The GTVA. Quite a few discharged survivors joined, giving Fleet Zero very good, yet unstable, fighter squadrons. The group was renamed the Wraiths of Capella, and would fight until all souls lost were avenged. The group began to grow quickly, buying pirate ships and decomissioned GTVA ships. The Wraiths soon settled down in the recently bustling system of Wolf 359. With their power they slowly began to control the system through mafia style handlings. Mostly you heard about what the Wraiths did, you never saw them. When the Sons of Shiva appeared, the two began to fight each other to the death. It was rumoured that the Wraiths began to buy other pirate bands to fight for them. Whatever their true motives, they are very dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. Their connections allow them to be nearly anywhere at anytime.

Present State:
Recently they have been at war with the Sons of Shiva. While the war has cost them dearly, they have gained the public support of other pirate bands and the private approval of some planetary governors. These alliances may give the Wraiths near dominant control of the Wolf 359 underground in the near future.

Fleet:
Most of their fleet is made up of older GTVA craft. Most of them have been refitted with heavier armor and weaponry, but at the expense of speed. Their fighter squadrons are primarily made up of PF Shagraths, PF Satyrs, and modified PF Vultures. The Wraith capital ships are traditionally named after elements of death and revenge (WCD Genocide, WCCv Retribution)

Founded: 2373
Leader: See Background
Flagship: SSD Curse (Orion class Destroyer)
Members: 40,000+
Fleet Size (Estimated): 1 Destroyer, 2 Corvettes, 14 Cruisers, 39 Transports, 12 Squadrons (144 Fighters)

Background:
It is unknown how the Sons formed, only that when they were not a day old, they declared war on the Wraiths of Capella. They brainwash new members, who have either joined willingly or been captured in "recruiting raids". The Sons have a cult-like belief that the Shivans had come to purge away the corrupt government and leave the survivors to build a new society. Captured members state their leader is, or are, the Shivans. Intercepted messages show that they receive orders from either their command Destroyer or Corvettes. Some also mention the High Emissary Kali, a person with a supposed link to the Shivans themselves. However it is very unlikely that the Shivans are playing any role in this.

Present State:
Their war with the Wraiths of Capella have cost them dearly. Starting off with 5 stolen destroyers and nearly 200,000 men, the Sons have been cut down very heavily. Their tactics against the Wraiths prove very useless and the suicide tactics of captains are very costly to the Sons fleet, and rarely work well against the Wraiths. Recently they have bought out many small pirate bands and have acquired advaced GTVA equipment. It is unclear how this will affect the war.

Fleet:
Their Command Destroyer, the SSD Curse is rumoured to be lurking in the Metus Nebula. Their corvettes are rarely seen as well, only two have been seen, but they could well be the same one. The Sons like to inflate their fleet size to appear more menacing. The cruiser are primarily made up of Rumrunners, either stolen or bought, although there are a few Fenris cruisers in their fleet as well. The Sons use PF Chimeras and PF Hellbats to swarm their opponents. More elite squadrons use the PF Shagrath. Most capital ships are named after elements of back luck (SSD Curse, SSC Full Moon, SSC Hex).

I'm surprised the HoL were never mentioned in that description.  You'd think that with their leanings, the few that might have survived in hiding, would join forces with these Sons of Shiva.

I remember adding some HoL link to the Sons, but took it out for some reason. I'll probably readd that after I remember how I worded it.

All things aside, that does give me an idea for a mission.

I got a half completed entry for the GTVA fleet that watches over the area. When that's done, hopefully it'll explain the relation between the pirates and the GTVA.

Founded: 2358
Fleet Admiral: Admiral Henry Craven
Flagship: GTD Dionysus (Hecate Destroyer)
Members: 250,000
Fleet Size: 3 Destroyers, 7 Corvettes, 15 Cruisers, 53 Support Craft (including transports), 20 Squadrons (240 Fighters)

Background: (This primarily concerns the operations of the 12th Fleet after 2370)
Before the Metus Nebula was discovered, the 12th Fleet was poorly funded. Most captains were quick to retreat from pirate skirmishes, while some fool hardy ones tried to break up the fight. After Metus was discovered, corporations and businessmen flocked to Wolf 359. This proved to be very good targets for the also growing pirate population. The GTVA had a large interest in the system as well and supplied the 12th Fleet with many new ships and equipment. The 12th Fleet initiated Operation Free Flight, the goal was to eliminate all pirate activity in and around Wolf 359. The operation was soon aborted when the attacks only made the pirates come closer together and many anti-GTVA alliances were formed. The 12th Fleet has come to an unoffical agreement, as long as all pirate groups stay away from the GTVA, they will not attack. The deal was successful in protecting key GTVA assets, and pirates were content with the prey they hunted.

Present State:
The 12th fleet has stayed in its course of apathy to the pirates. Although recently with the assignment of Admiral Craven to the fleet, the fleet engages weakened pirate bands that are more a nuisance than a threat. Some captains and squadron leaders are not content with this and sometimes have gotten increasingly aggressive to any pirate band. This attitude has made martyrs among the pirates and caused great harm to various investigations. In any case, the 12th fleet continues to be the harbringer for any pirate group looking for too much attention.

Fleet:
The fleet is comprised of retro-fitted Hecate destroyers and Deimos corvettes, brand new Rangarok and Valhalla corvettes, as well as new batches of Aeolus cruisers. The Orion destroyers and the Fenris and Leviathan cruisers have nearly all been decomissioned, sold to mercenaries or scrapped. The GTF Herc II and GTF Perseus comprise the brunt of the fighter squadrons, with a few  GTF Erinyes and GTF Pheonix squadrons rounding out as heavy assault squadrons. The 12th fleet also has bomber squadrons comprised of the GTB Boanerges and the new GTB Nemisis.

Founded: 2361
Leader: Vince Markham
Flagship: MBD Mammon
Members: 13,000
Fleet Size: 1 Destroyer, 2 Corvettes, 7 Cruisers, 15 Transports, 5 Squadrons (60 fighters)

Background:
Started long ago when a small bunch of mercenaries got together to go after the notorious pirate king Veygar Cil. They killed him and collected most of his fortune, and his flagship the Mammon. They took that to be their flagship and began their own pirate band, absorbing some of Cil's forces. They named themselves after the ship they stole, the Mammon Bandits. They made a name for themselves attacking ships of great worth, and kidnapping high ranking officals for large sums. The Mammon Bandits enjoy being called one of the 3 richest pirate bands, only being superceded by the Wraiths and the Death Cult. Because of their wealth, they are able to stock up on good ships and equipment, which makes them a deadly band. With their headquarters in Laramis, they are able to intercept all traffic headed for Wolf 359. While they are not the strongest, they are very experienced.

Present State:
They have been long at war with another small pirate band, the Adhara Predators. While the fighting between the two has mostly been small skirmishes, there has not been any large engagements. Most likely to avoid the GTVA's attack on the victor. In the time of the Wraiths and Sons buying out smaller bands, the Bandits have stayed independant, and have a good friendship with the Death Cult.

Fleet:
Their fleet is a small, but experienced one. Their flagship, the MBD Mammon, operates at half strength due to scarcity of parts for the old Orion class. Their Rumrunner cruisers hit undefended convoys. When the cruisers take on more than they can chew, one of the twin corvettes come in to help out. Common fighters within the Bandits include PF Chimeras, PF Hellbats, PF Satyrs, and PB Sepueltures. Capital ships are normally named after blades of the ancient Terra (MBCv Falchion, MBC Durandal).

Special Note: This will be the pirate band you join at the beginning.

Might as well update this. Been a few months. No logos for these guys yet. I'll edit the post when I make them.

Adhara Predators
Founded: 2364
Leader: Dean Arasin
Flagship: APD Dragon
Members: 14,000
Fleet Size: 1 Destroyer, 3 Corvettes, 5 Cruisers, 6 Transports, 8 Squadrons (96 Fighters)

Background:
The Adhara Predators were formed, out of all places, in Adhara. The Predators were originally a collection of smugglers and unsuccessful mercenaries. Their history is rife with mistakes and overconfidence. Very soon after they were formed, they made the mistake of directly attacking the GTVA, and were forced to relocate to Polaris. The Predators couldn't have picked a worse time to move there, as Admiral Bosch was just beginning his rebellion against the GTVA. The NTF and Predators tried to make an alliance, but the Predators quickly broke it when they attempted to board the NTD Repulse. The Predators began to take on a Nomadic way of life, moving from system to system, only attacking convoys with food and water. After nearly a decade of wandering the systems, the Predators found the pirate havens past Ross 128. At long last, in 2376, the Predators began to settle down and actually make a home. The Predators have always been known for big talk, little bite. Their reputation for stupid plans and less-than-able ships, bring new pilots of equal calibre. Some see the Predators has being quite lucky, while others think they are proof that the universe has an odd sense of humour.

Present State:
The war with the Mammon Bandits has totally occupied them, nearly all attacks have been against the Bandits or general supply convoys. The Predators have recently shown a greater show of force than usual, employing more recent ships. The source is unknown, but they are most likely stolen. This may even the playing field between the Predators and the Bandits.

Fleet:
The Predator fleet is geared more to capital ship assault, with their fighters taking a large variety of roles. This tends to spread out their fighters too much and they became easy targets. Their flagship, the APD Dragon stays in the shadows, issuing orders, while their corvettes spearhead the assaults. The cruisers are used for corvette support or as bait for some of their ambitious plans. The Predators use old craft such as the GTF Loki, GTF Hercules, GTF Ulysses, and "newer" craft, such as the PF Hellbat and PF Vulture. Captial ships are named after predators and mythological beasts on Terra (APD Dragon, APC Great White).

Vasudan Guard
Founded: 2336
Disbanded: 2360
(Information as of 2360)
Leader: Tal'din Vare
Flagship: VGD Amarna
Members: 45,000? (Peak)
Fleet Size (Peak): 1 Destroyer, 4 Corvettes, 15 Cruisers, 56 Transports, 12 Squadrons (144 Fighters)

Background:
The greatest pirate band ever known in the GTVA. Formed a year after the first Shivan Incursion, a young Vasudan captain named Tal'din Vare, offered anyone, GTA or PVN, to protect civilan ships from a future Shivan threat. After the GTA and PVN were effectively disbanded, the Guard transformed into a pirate organization. Seizing on this opportunity, ex-HoL members attempted to gain control of the Guard but forces loyal to Vare stopped the coup in their tracks. Even after the GTVA was formed, the Guard continued to be as brash as they could. The Guard was one of the few larger problems the GTVA had during the reconstruction. Most other pirate groups were quickly dispatched by the GTVA, but the Guard was not that willing. Pirates flocked to the Guard to avoid being destroyed, and the Guard grew even more powerful. At its peak it was of equal strength to a GTVA fleet. But its large growth may have made the Guard collapse over itself. As time went on, Vare became dissatisfied with the band as a whole, and he disbanded the group. His top agents attempted to reforge the Guard, but failed miserably.

Vare has since been out of the public eye for the longest time. It is rumoured he has set up shop in Wolf 359. Why or for what, no one knows.

i was just pcing around coming up for ideas of pirate personas whilst listening to the emperor vs thorns album. heres what i come up with:

name:
"The Beef"
role:
rumrunner captain
apearance:
what i would look like if i ever went to inferno or wacken, leather clad death-hippie. has somewhat of an addiction to bosh beer, as he always has one in his hand whilst captaining
background:
a rebel veterean bomber pilot. he bought his rumrunner after stealing some ntf hardware during the confusion of bosh's exodus into the nebula. while in the ntf he used his position to rack up some profit by selling some of his unused warheads on the black market. this natuarlly put him in the perfect position to start a pirate carer when the ntf was crushed.

name:
"Grizz" (based off one of axems characters)
role:
assault fighter pilot, likes heavy ships and enjoys an occasional bombing run
apearance:
hes gonna be a scared up and mangled individual, he has a cybernetic prosthetic eye, mohawk and is rather ugly looking. hes also gonna be rather muscular and maybe have some piercings, essentially looking like cross between somone out of a madmax movie, and gaahl.
background:
grizz was an erinyes pilot in the second great war. one time on mission a dragon fighter ligned up on his nose while he was trying to dodge a beam cannon. he wanst paying attention to his 12 and the shivan put some shots through his cockpit. after the battle he was recovered and spent a year on a medical frigate recovering from his injuries. aside from injuries to his face he recieved some brain damage that screwed up his personality made him a rather grumpy individual with absolutely zero sense of humor. his family died in the capella disaster and to this day he blames the gtva for their deaths. bloodthirsty and wanting revenge he became a pirate. hes mellowed out somwhat but youd never figure that out.

name:
bitchkrieg, or bk for short
role:
rumrunner weapons officer/bartender
apearance:
shes gonna look like one of my ex girfriends, not the fat ones the cute ones. she will have an eyepatch and be somewhat of a twiggy emo looking character, much like the original.
background:
noone knows where bitchkrieg comes from, as she rarely speaks. she gets her name because of her ice cold firing solutions which usually cause more humiliation for the enemy than actual damage (wether it be at her guns or at the bar). this makes her perfect for being a pirate as the goal is not to destroy the target. she seems to take pride in her work and wont hesitate to carry out the most evil of orders. she onced pierced the hull of a civilian transport, thus depressurizing it, with a smile on her face. she also has the tendancy to fire at anyone who trys to flirt with her over the com, usually blowing out a subsystem.

name:
fish
role:
generic noob pilot, gunner, ect, general chair filler
apearance:
young and with no wonds of battle. the type you would usually see in a gtva simulator but seldom in a fighter. il have a few skins for theese so i can make it look like theres a few different ones.
background:
various. in other words some kid who thinks hes got what it takes to be a pirate, but otherwise unproven. these are also the guys who bk usually shoots at from time to time. theyre cocky and are usually getting themselves killed.

name:
blackjack
role:
light fighter jock
appearace:
black dude, maybe with sunglasses shaved head and weares sort of an brownish flight jacket. looks like a retired fighter pilot.
background:
he was a new wingman for an old wing of disgrunteled gtva pilots. theese pilots decided to defect during a joint attack on an ntf criuser. they were supposed to team up with a vasudan wing and splash the criuser. he watched in horror as his own wing killed the vasudans and requested to defect. he had the choice to to go with it or die. he couldnt hide his gtva sympathies and they put him in an ntf pow camp. he managed to escape but the gtva had him on a defector list so he couldnt return to his duty. he had no choice but to join up with a pirate crew. he wants to clear his name but his current occupation makes that rather difficult. he doesnt want to betray his pirate crew but hel do whatever it takes to clear his name and get his rank back.

anyway i just wanted to write this stuff down before i forget. i intend to make pilot models for these at some point in the future. theese arent to replace any of axems characters but are rather just some faces to put in the comm window and in the seats of the fighters. i could probibly voice act them all except the girl, who doesnt say much. or maybe i can do a convincing pitch shift with my xfi.

What? No Disaffected HoL pilots turned pirate?

name:
preacher
role:
interceptor pilot, psychological warfare, weeding out useless prisoners
appearance:
Vasudan, perhaps slightly more wall eye then your average Vasudan, with GTVA and HoL flight badges scratched from his flight armor.
background:
Bounced from the GTVA fleet after being caught eating headz, long after such practices were banned as "unproductive towards maintaining strategic alliances with the Terrans"  Due to his superb piloting skills, recruited and indoctrinated by the Hammer of Light.  Survived Operation Templar with a few more battlescars, religious zeal and unemployment.  Turned to pirating after his attempts to become a painter failed, since his style(colored by his time in HoL) was deemed too melancholy and an excessive portrayal of severed heads.  Became a successful pirate due to his great skills with an interceptor and ability to cow and demoralize the enemy by spouting religious litanies spelling out doom an annihilation.  Is allowed to eat the heads of the more annoying prisoners, ie GTVA politicians, attorneys and mimes.  Genrally kept away from the fish, lest he try to convert them, or convince them to donate thier heads as alms

i was thinking about a vasudan but i figured with so many ntf rejects that the vasudan might be a little bit out numbered. i did think of a little joke that went along something like this.

blackjack: yo fish!
fish: yes sir?
grizz: hey idiot, this isnt the fucking gtva!
bj: i heared you get to bunk with the new vasudan
fish: i saw the roster, i guess theese here pirate ships get rather cramped
grizz: like sardines! hehe!
fish: hey!
bj: you do know what they say about vasudans?
bitchkrieg: vasudans wuv fishies
grizz: looks like you might be gettin some tonight
fish: i think bk likes me
zappppp!
fish: w###t--- Fu^^k!---m y......co@ms---ysyt--m
bj: not her noob, zodface, i hear vasudans posses a rather large member or two
grizz: and they like to be on top
the beef: sounds like youre it for a night of hot butseks their fishy!
