Tmp2 / [Colonial] Ragnar Station v2.0
« on: March 05, 2006, 09:59:29 PM »
Isn't there supposed to be a docking structure between some of the rings, that doesn't rotate, where the Galactica was seen docking?  If you looked top-down on the station, it would look "Y" shaped, with the convergence matching up with the station's centerline.

What we need now are for people to Photoshop us some recruiting posters, perhaps in a WWII style, for their squadron websites.

Hank, if you switched from hexagon-based to pentagon-based designs, you'd have the basis for Cylon insignias.

We've not fiddled with it but it shouldn't be that hard. Use the object speed SEXPs to give the ship the same velocity as the Galactica and then set the ship to be in glide mode and it will keep the right direction and heading.

Of course if Galactica manoeuvres while you're launching you're screwed but then again that would be true in the show too.

I've often suggested the idea of using dockpoints on a subobject in the launch tubes, but it would require subobject translations, which we don't have yet... only rotation-based subobject movement.

I'm surprised that no-one commented about that birthday card Kara sent to Adm. Adama.  Had me laughing my head off.

First I've heard of an Ontario accent.  Now, I've heard Mike Myers describe a Scarborough accent, which is part of Eastern Toronto, and I hadn't heard of such an accent before.  I guess if you live here, they all tend to blend together and you don't notice any difference.

Tmp2 / Theory about the 12 colonies...
« on: March 14, 2007, 05:07:21 AM »
Bit of a theory I'd heard before, but dismissed... now reconsidered and refined:

How about having Cylons been present on Kobol, and were in some part responsable for things turning sour there.  When the 13 tribes left, so did the remaining Cylons.  The 12 colonies were established, as well as Earth, while the Cylons founded what is now the Cylon home world.  During the time since, the Cylons continued to evolve into ultimately the Skin-jobs, but there were only 5.  They chose to abandon further development of inorganic Cylons.  Then, they began to infiltrate the 12 colonies and observed that the humans were repeating the same mistakes of the past, and attempting to create robotic life once again.  As these robots became ever-present in colonial life, the 5 original Cylons decided to free their younger siblings, they sent a software patch that caused the new Cylons to rebel.  When the armistice was declared, the new Cylons headed out to find a home world.  Soon after, the original 5 made direct contact with them, and offered to shepherd them into a new form of existence, and thus out current 7 types of skin-jobs were born.  Unfortunately, the new Cylons had some form of falling out with the originals, possibly over issues such as the creation of multiple copies, resurrection, or their plans for vengeance against the humans.  At this point, the original 5 patched the new Cylons again, blocking their knowledge of their identities, as well as info on new-type cylon creation (IE. new models of Skin-jobs), and disappeared, returning to hide among the Colonials.

No one surrendered during WWII, our men fought bravely but were technologically outdated, and so were massacred for their "Patrie" because of bad leaders, still think it's funny now ?

Actually, some of France's weapons were in fact on a par with Germany, and in terms of numbers, France in fact had a superior force.  The problems were that MOST of France's armies were using older or outdated equipment, but more importantly outdated tactics.  For example, the French still employed the WWI tactic of using tanks to support the infantry, while the Germans had their tanks set into divisions all their own.  Furthermore, the integrated nature of German tactics, mainly the use of dive-bombers as close support, was what really have the Germans the decisive advantage.  That, and their invasion of neutral countries such as Belgium and the Netherlands, which allowed them to outflank French defenses.  The ability of the French to produce sometimes superior machines, is demonstrated by a tank engagement that I read about last night, where a French Char B1 tank, ambushed and destroyed 13 German Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks, receiving 120 hits itself and returned home.

Tmp2 / Episode 317 - Discussion **Spoilers**

A thought occurred to me regarding the possibility of Starbuck's escape from her exploding ship.  We've seen in the past, that the show will kinda re-write its own history for cliff-hangers.  Take for example, the season premier, where at the end of it, Cally is seen running from the Cylon ambush of the detainees, and the gunfire is heard as she's running through some trees.  When we pick up at the next episode (and after the "one hour before" bit), Cally is suddenly running through more of like clay hills (no trees) and she is thrown to the ground by Tyrol BEFORE the gunfire erupts from the resistance fighters.  With this as precedent, its possible that some future episode (or perhaps the very end of "Crossroads, PT.II") will show an "edited" replay of these events, showing that perhaps Starbuck ejected from her ship BEFORE Lee reacquired a visual on it, or that she ejected just prior to the detonation.  Her ejection was obscured from Lee's view by the explosion of her fighter.

who knows...maybe the other 5 can resurrect.  that means Tigh will get his eye back!!!

Unlikely.  In order to resurrect, the final 5 would need replacement bodies on the Resurrection Ship, or on a nearby Base Star (which appears to have limited resurrection capabilities, as seen in "Rapture").  In order for the replacement bodies to be there, the other 7 models would need to see and maintain them, so they'd know who the final 5 were.

Since 317 - "Maelstrom" is expected to be a big-consequences episode, I anticipate that we'll be getting some in-depth discussion of it.  To start things off, here's the description of the episode from the Canadian Space channel's website:
Kara questions her sanity when a dogfight with a Cylon raider ends unexpectedly, and later she has recollections of her abusive mother and nightmares about her time on New Caprica.
For HoG, you could always have the player be part of Lee's crew.   During the final run as pilots are getting picked-off by the AA missiles, I don't recall seeing as many fighters present as when the undocked from the freighter.  So, lets assume that a secondary team that was part of Lee's crew, broke off as they approached the asteroid, and went for a secondary target.  Perhaps they wanted to create a diversion from a different vector, so Lee's crew that were making the main run, would have fewer AA emplacements targeting them...  at least until they get to close range.  Primary targets for the player's group are AA emplacements and perhaps power generators or something.  Then, when the fighters in Lee's wing are getting picked off, the player has to attack AA emplacements on the central structure to give Lee a better chance.  Then, so Lee's fighter completes the run properly, the attack path for the key subsystem on the model, would start in the trench, follow through the tunnel, and pop up within the structure.  Using short radius figures for the path points should keep Lee from bouncing off too many walls.

Basically, the player has a supporting role in the engagement.  Then, perhaps when the refinery goes up, the players have to deal with some of the few Raiders that make it back... just to slip in some fighter combat.
