The sticky says essentially nothing. You don't think mass deletion deserves some kind of... explanation? with syllables in it?

Well, I'd guess the omission of any status update implies it's 99% dead as a going concern.  I mean, the webpage is dead, there's no staff, and now any discussion is being deleted, so it seems like the kamikaze death of a project in a last desperate attempt to get people interested.

Or, I dunno, maybe it's a big revamp.  Who knows?

Why, are you quitting / restarting?

General Freespace / Freespace reimagined?
« on: August 13, 2007, 03:30:56 PM »

Just an interesting something... Blazing Lizard is a studio founded by 3 ex-Volition peeps, focusing (apparently) on smaller scale Xbox Arcade / PSN / etc style titles such as, er, Pirates Vs Ninjas Volleyball.  However, if you look at the bottom of the page, there's an interesting little possibility;

"A lot of people were wondering what type of game we were going to announce. We had a lot of people who loved Freespace," Stockman said. "If people keep saying make a kick ass space game, that's something we're going to explore."

But given the price of the Freespace IP, Stockman would rather reinvent the series than continue it.

"A new IP 'from the makers of Freespace' has the same effect. This way, we can start with a new story, new characters...the whole nine yards."

Obviously it's not exactly a big piece of news - but it's interesting to see theres still potential for a good FS-style game out there.  Albeit I doubt a small DL-title studio could really do it justice.

Er, hello. :)  Been a while.

Anyways, I'd like to see if anyone is interested in a bit of unpaid, stressful, disorganised work.  On the plus side, you get to see cool stuff.

See - and ignore the digressions into hair length and biscuits.  It's not my fault, honest.

That's a good thought evilotto. Maybe to get to the root of this discussion one should ask, why did the Cylons (machines) go through such great lengths to produce a humanoid form? Or were they produced by humans as well?

I believe 'this form brings us closer to God' was the relevant quote.......  which also implies that their God is related to the Lord of Kobol that humanity resided besides before that planet was abandoned.

The Cylons also see their creators as parents - parents they detest as heretics and dangerous (kill out of spite or hate, etc) - and perhaps part of their adopting a human form was to prove they could be 'better' and supercede their parents.

Wow.... I love this show.

I just sat through 4 seasons for that the last week (Seasons 5-8). 80 episodes of SG bliss. Oh, my ass is sore! Yes I'm nuts. Its nice to take a break from a character driven show like Galactica and watch SG's multi-threaded story driven glory.

The Asguard, wow, kick ass. Go'auld vs Replciators SWEET!!! NID and The Trust.. intriguing. Vice President Kinsley... an ASS. They have established quite a rich storyline. I hope DeLuise can keep up the pace with season 9. Without O'neil its gonna be a tough transition. Ben Browder might add an interesting new dynamic with the team. I don't know about Beau Bridges and Louis Gossip Jr. though. I guess we'll see what happens in July.

I kinda hate the way SG:Atlantis demystified the Ancients and their technology though. I hope that show straightens up and rid themselves of their weak antagonists, the "Wraith". The Goauld is a hundred times more interesting than space vampires. I do like Shephard and Mc'Kay. That Scotish dude and that whiney longhaired russian ASS scientist should be hexxed.

Oi!  Leave the Scots alone, sunshine.

General Discussion / What's Freespace 2. A FPS or a Combat Flight Sim?
« on: April 02, 2005, 10:28:21 PM »
Freespace is a space combat game first and simulation second.

Of course, being a simulation doesn't mean your simulating something that actually exists; it can be an abstract model (which, in terms of physics, FS defo is).
