Strange, for me the Corneria Mission always crashes but Sector Y works fine. The Great Fox has problems for me as well, I think something is wrong with its collision because of the wings.

As for music I recommend using a program called Audacity to convert mp3's into oggs that FSO can read.

It is quite a disappointment, this is probably the oldest mod and the one I've followed the longest. :sigh:

If those that started the mod don't mind, it would be awesome if you released the models and perhaps a plot synopsis and features you were going to include in SoL. Perhaps I can survive some or most of the mod in my Starfox RTS?

If there's no mods folder (I presume you are using windows Vista or 7?) just make a new folder called "mods" in the data folder and paste all the Starfox stuff in there. When you start up Fleet Ops just go to options > mod options > Starfox RTS and tah dah it should work.

Fleet Operations technically does not need Star Trek Armada II to play, and while it asks for a CD there's a simple way around it. They've actually just cleared all legal issues with the engine and it's going open source very soon. You can get Fleet Ops here: http://www.fleetops.net/home.html

I'd not recommend buying A2.... it's quite expensive. :nervous:

Technically it is possible to combine two different game engine types, though it's usually a very difficult process. For instance it would be a nightmare to combine the Armada Engine (which is largely Lua) and the Unreal Engine (Unreal script), but it is possible. In most cases when a game demands for two different gameplay types though it's all usually included in the main engine rather then combining two different ones. Coincidentally, the Armada engine is actually an updated version of the engine used by the game Battlezone (1998), which just so happened to be a FPS - RTS hybrid.

Indeed, the FO team has been adding in components from other engines as well as writing their own software to add to the aged Armada engine. In terms of sound they recently added in FMOD Ex, which is the sound engine that Starcraft II, Bioshock, and Crysis use (to name a few). As far as I know there's no industry standard word for the sum total of engine components.

That's quite recent in strategy games, RTS among them. Don't know if you ever played Red Alert 3, IMO it was not as good as the two first for the gameplay, but I really liked that system triggering music depending on the threat level.

I mean when you started the game there was a calm music, yet tenseful that helped to build up a nervous ambiant at the wake of a battle, then at the first units skirmishing there were a more rocking music, and if there was a huge battle, a really dynamic music that pulled you in the heat of the fightings, plus it was depending on wether you were losing or winning.

So if ever it happens to be possible, it would be really cool. :)


Right now it's set up to play tracks one by one, but I do want to eventually have situational music like in Red Alert 3 and Medieval 2. The Fleet Ops devs have mentioned implementing that ability into the engine. To my knowledge it actually currently is possible since they redid the engine's sound engine...  just not sure how to do it as of now. :o
