Tmp2 / BSG CGI designer reveals battlestar sizes
« on: April 15, 2009, 01:23:45 AM »
The Galactica in the Stringer listing is confusing.  You have to add together the front and rear measurments to get the size.

Lee Stringer posted the sizes of many ships, minus Pegasus shortly after season one premiered.

Thanks for the site link.

I'm an architectural model maker by trade.

I didn't have a sweetheart in highschool but I did marry a girl who was a great friend in college years after graduation from there.  She's been very good to me.

I haven't had a loss like yours in my life yet.  That's gotta hurt everyday man.

I did a little sketch design for my own Battlestar as well;

I've been working off and on on this for the last few years,

I took about 14 months off if you notice the gap in updates at the end.

There's no confusion.  There are two teams working independantly.  I think the idea is that there will be more for everybody.

The cylinder is just a massing place holder.  The idea was to put Valkyrie styled machinery in the belly trench.  I haven't given much consideration to gun placement yet.  I'm still playing around with the volumes and arrangement.  I'll most likely kill the keel.

I've been picking at my own Battlestar design the last few weeks.  Since things on the Nu series have not worked out for me on the model front, I've decided to pull back and do something just for me.

The fin on the bottom is a legacy feature from my earliest sketches.  I can excuse it's existence as a hull cutting ram.  But it also seems like a phallic element.

I'm only posting this here.  I'm not too interested in putting this out on the CG or model building forums.  I would just like to get any feedback from you guys that might be constructive.

I like the idea of this ship.  If the team decides to go with it I would suggest modeling it as if it were detailed out of real model kit parts.  That's what the various artists did on the Miniseries.  Here is a link to a site with model kit part scans.

Tmp2 / New references for Classic Galactica Models

Here's a new pic;

And here are hundreds of photos of the original Galactica herself.  These have been the source of a great amount of bad blood in the Studio Scale  modeling scene.  They've been bought and made pubic domain.

There are some new shots of classic miniature work from the original series.

I think the Game meshes will hold up VERY well in this pamphlet.

I'm having a hard time believing that this is a game engine mesh.  That's really great texturing.
