Thanks.  :)  I'll keep the Wing forum in my bookmarks.

With apologies, but not regrets, I have to back out of the squadron.

One of my favorite web communities has closed, and we only got 31 days' notice.  Along with several other talented and tireless people, I've been scrambling to organize a replacement in just a month.  Now that it's up, it will still need my attention to keep it healthy... I'll be around the forums at (dedicated to the fantasy series Wheel of Time) as Roga, and will pimp BtRL to the BSG fans there when the full game comes out, just like I did at the old site with the demo.  :)

Thanks Karajorma.  This is the second time that's happened to me, and I kinda panicked both times because I was afraid of accidentally triggering Respawn again, wasting a life, and possibly still having the box stick again.

I was on with userfriendly for a while, but accidentally quit when the RESPAWN box got stuck on my screen and I was hitting keys to try to get rid of it.  So I was out for one or two games.  Then when I caught them Forming again, my ping was too high and I kept timing out.  I've got to get some food now, so I might not be back before they're done.

I've had time conflicts with other sorties, but this one I just forgot about.  I'm sorry.  :(

Haha.  Thanks.  Yeah, that was probably it.  I'm not a member of any development team, so if there's a guy named BackSlash, they probably mistook me for him.

What's this thing that keeps appearing between my name and my insignia avatar now??  I haven't noticed it on anybody else.

I've been checking the forum at least once a week.

and backlash hasnt respond to any of my emails...

That's because I haven't received any.  I don't even see any in my spam folders.

I have tried voice communication in multiplayer games twice in the past, and it always sucked, partly because it was years ago and the software wasn't as good then, but partly because I don't think I've ever had a decent mic for my computer.

What are you using that works well for you?

Huge bonus if it can be found on newegg.  Not over $20 would be even nicer.

Posted in the bio thread.

58th Viper Air wing: The White Knights / Bios!!

Name: Corran Halcyon

Rank: Ensign

Callsign: Backlash

Birthplace: Caprica

Flight Jacket: Viper Mk II, Small Arms

Bio: Originally callsigned "Lancer" by squadmates (for his willingness to engage in head-to-head passes), Halcyon was among those scrambled to defend Caprica during the Cylon attack.  Disabled by the CNS virus and getting shot up by Raiders, he let his ship fall into the atmosphere before punching out safely.  After several weeks of scrounging supplies and fragging toasters in ones & twos, he found a group of resistance fighters and joined up.  Eventually, they were evacuated by Raptors from Galactica.  He was folded into the 58th since his old unit had been completely destroyed.

Halcyon also had the bad luck to be planetside when the Cylons occupied New Caprica.  Since downloaded toasters had identified him as a member of the old Caprican resistance, he was left loose for a short while before the Cylons imprisoned him and began to torture him in hopes that he had linked up with the new resistance and would give up information.  Actually, he had not yet connected with the resistance, but did his best to keep his interrogators guessing.

He was sprung from the detention facilities during the evacuation, and returned to the 58th with even more of a personal score to settle with the toasters - they kept him locked in solitary away from daylight for months, and the torture left him with a scarred face and loss of vision clarity in his left eye (fuzziness; he can see light and shapes, but no detail; his left eye is only good as peripheral vision).  Although he's adjusting to the vision impairment and has managed to hide it so far, he busted part of his requalifications in the MkVII, and in general his flying isn't as good as it used to be.  But for the moment he's safe, because that's true of a lot of pilots.

The quieter, no-life-outside-flying attitude he has fallen into since getting out made fellow pilots conclude he's not interested in much besides revenge, so they have taken to calling him "Backlash" now, which seems to suit him fine.

58th Viper Air wing: The White Knights / What's your Gear?
« on: May 04, 2007, 03:12:16 PM »
Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D (The first Wingman with the twist axis).

The Saitek x52 looks awesome, but I don't have $100 to unload on a new joystick.  :(

Playing keyboard-only is very tough.  I flew with the keyboard in Freespace 1.  Because input is limited to only 3-4 keys at a time, you have to stop turning or shooting for a second if you want the system to hear any other commands.  That's on top of aiming being less exact when using keys.

Come to think of it, maybe flying keyboard-only would be a better way to simulate the difficulty of piloting a MkVII without CNS assistance ;)

1700 US Eastern is 1600 US Central, or 4pm, or about 2 hours before I'm home after work.  So I will be missing this one too.

58th Viper Air wing: The White Knights / Setting up for multi

If you need some real-time help getting set up for multiplayer, you can try the irc channel #btrl on .  I asked about multi there and they had me connected in a few minutes.
