General Freespace / Freespace 2 Campaigns?

Does anybody know of any good user FS2 campaigns that I oughta check out? Since VolitionWatch went down, i've had a hard time finding any. Also, is there ever going to be an Inferno Release 2?

General Freespace / FRED 2 Open?

Figured it would be easier to just ask this here than register at HLP and whatnot to ask it there. How do I get Fred 2 Open? I've got FSO installed, works fine, but when i open fred from the freespace folder, the SEXP's are just the same as before.

Without further ado, here is the light carrier I came up with. It's a bit bigger than a BSG flight pod to accomodate bombers, possibly, and would have a fighter compliment of about 30-35 vipers and 6 raptors. her only anti-capship weapon will be a pegasus style forward facing cannon on the front.

this class of ship was put in to service toward the middle of the cylon war to free up battlestars from supporting large fighter strike ops, and to provide escort for supply line vessels.

Okay, a few talking points, if somebody can dig up some info on this, much obliged.
1. How are the Colonies laid out in relation to each other? Are they located in one planetary system? A few, do they each have their own?
2. What are the names of all 12 colonies, and what is each colony like. (economy, population, etc.)
3. What do we know about pre-cylon colonial history? had their been intercolonial wars? how long before the cylons were the colonies united?

i needed something like this for a campaign i'm cooking up in my head (yes, i know btrl isn't out yet, but i'm just overflowing with ideas).

This is my idea for a civilian colonial space station. It would have required a massive amount of raw materials to construct, so there would only be 3-4 of these scattered throughout the colonies at trade crossroads. it's unarmed, relying on a detachment of vipers to police the ships in it's space lanes. as you can see, it's big enough to service 3 battlestars and can hold a massive amount of cargo and people. these would be massive, spacebased cities of trade.

i plan to add:
-solar panels, as shown. powering a station this big on a reactor would be very impractical.
-a comm tower
-finish the spires on the wetdocks
-do something interesting with the big bottom section

suggestions are very much appreciated, as this is only my second model.

PS How would i go about texturing something like this? i want to try my hand at it. it seems to be a skill that is very much in demand. I want it to look dirty  and colonial, but not military. something industrial.

Here we go guys. I didn't know how to edit the topic of the other thread, so I started a new one... forgive me! Anyway, here's what i've got, after a complete restart. This time the geometry is much more stable. I'll be putting non-functional guns on it for show soon. If somebody is interested in texturing it, let me know. Texturing doesn't seem to be something you can learn by trial and error, like modeling.

Here she is. Took all day to build. My first model. Feedback is appreciated. Fully armed, she'd have lines of defensive turrets along the big struts on the sides, along the side of the main body and on the sides and top of the command section. she's have them on the engines, and there'd be a few on the little X thingy dingy between the engines.

the top and bottom decks would have 3 KEWs a piece. EDIT: the small section just behind the tapering section over the command section would have a raptor VTOL pad on top. the Prometheus is designed to be near the size of a battlestar's flight pod.

She would be commanded by a Major.

Athena Light Carrier
The Athena is supposed to be a carrier that carries the same compliment of fighters as one battlestar flighter pod. It would increase the range and power projection of a BSG, and provide the Colonial Navy with a way of projecting fighter presence without the need of a Battlestar. Haven't decided exactly when it was constructed (during first cylon war, immediately after, pegasus era). From the top it looks just like a BSG flight pod with some engines slapped on, but i'm working on a profile that will show that it actually has a big island immediately in front of the engines that resembles a modern day carrier.



Prometheus Flak Frigate
The Prometheus Frigates entered service at the end of the first Cylon War. Designed to protect non-combatant ships and protect supply lines. Has a much smaller deployment stamina than a battlestar, and it's main weakness is that it has to be rearmed after a few major engagements. I added a small VTOL Raptor bay so it could provide recon.

So guys and gals, I need your thoughts, suggestions and ideas. I'll try to get some profile drawings up soon, unless you guys tell me to just give up. I'm no starslayer. this is just supposed to kind of float some ideas.

FRED for both Freespace games had a 40 ship limit. Can you BTRL guys PLEASE get rid of that, or at least raise it? Otherwise we're not gonna have very many Raiders...:blah:

That there's no way to get to it because a powerful alien race known as the "Shivans" has destroyed the "Jump Node" to the "Sol System." There's a large network of human star systems called the "GTA" and another alien race called "Vasudans."

I'd like to start teaching myself how to model some ships. What FREE program should I start with to do the 3D modeling, with the eventual goal of drafting a game-ready ship? Truespace?

Tmp2 / Note To BTRL Staff: Give Us Cruisers!

I'm looking forward to BTRL not just as a player, but also as a mission designer. I can't wait to start putting together missions in the BSG universe, but it would be nice if we had some non-battlestar capital ships included in the game to use in exploring the events prior to Ragnar Anchorage. These wouldn't have to be at all implemented in the actual BTRL campaign, but inclusion would be a boon to FREDers.

meleardil found these a while ago, and i'd suggest using them:
Combatstar: Fills the role of a cruiser. Ought to be slightly larger than one of Galactica's flight pods. Give it a good armarment of antifighter weapons, give it the role of an escort cruiser.
