Tmp2 / Thought the Trekkies among you might like this
« on: June 01, 2008, 07:04:31 PM »
Thought the Trekkies among you might like this - it's a roundabout half a mile from Reus (near Barcelona) airport.  Sorry about the poor quality - in one hand I was holding the camera, in the other 65tonnes of high speed aluminium and we were reaching the bottom of the approach!

The trees hide the far triangle, but it's there, and partially mask the centre, but you can clearly see the pattern for the Klingon Empire symbol.  It looks like the north-European funded Spanish rooad workers have a sense of humour, anyway:

Tmp2 / Sound skipping/game freezing
« on: November 16, 2007, 07:14:41 PM »
Hi folks.

I have finally got this laptop to connect to the inetrnet and download the demo (and patch).  It 's great so far, but I have two problems:

The first, and most important, is that the speech often skips and repeats like a scratched CD, especially at the start of the second mission.  When this happens, the game freezes until the sound has played out, at which point play continues.

The second issue is that the trigger sometimes seems to "catch", wasting huge amounts of ammunition.  This can last over 20 seconds, and no amount of recycling the trigger works.

Any ideas?

Tmp2 / Wireless Coneection
« on: September 01, 2007, 02:55:58 PM »
I have tried to download the demo on my laptop, but trying reminded me of an old problem with the machine - the connection is often slow and frequently drops out.  I think it's a fault with the Intel wireless card - the desktop PC and Apple laptop never have the same issues with the D-link router, and the PC laptop seems to have no other running problems.

Can anyone please recommend a good (reasonably priced) replacement card to connect to a D-Link AirPlus G+ router, or alternatively provide details of those to avoid?

Tmp2 / Before I get antivirus and the demo download...

Because I don't want to run the risk of buggering up my wife's business computer, I plan to play on the slightly older laptop.  I need to get some antivirus and firewall softwre before I use it online, which is obviously going to cost.  Before I go to that expense, can anyone confirm that FS2 key commands do not use the number pad and adjacent pad (Insert, Delete, PageUp/down, arrows, etc), but only the smaller keyboard present on a laptop - I just installed an old game on the laptop and found that I can't use half the commands!

If someone could tell me where to download an FS2 instruction manual so that I'll have a copy of the BTRL features and key commands, i'd really appreciate it.

Tmp2 / Member introductions
« on: February 20, 2007, 10:22:27 PM »
Hi folks.

I just wanted to start an area where all the new members could introduce themselves - there have been several in the last few days, each with a new thread.  One thread might make it easier for everyone to  keep track and will keep the main forum menu free.

Welcome anyway!

Tmp2 / Missed out, but son had a good time
« on: December 02, 2006, 08:41:21 PM »
My wife took my 6yr old son, Rory, to the British National Space Centre on Friday, meeting the last Discovery crew's Pilot Mark Kelly and three of the Mission Specialists.

Helena was able to ask Cdr Kelly my question about the Orbiter's controls.  They use three-axis joysticks for rotational control (twist grip for yaw like Saitek) between the pilot's and commanders legs, and another for translational movement on the commanders left side.  They have a separate duplicate stick in the aft of the crew compartment with the x and y axis reversed for translational movement when facing rearward (mainly used for docking).

Tmp2 / Thread scope
« on: February 18, 2006, 10:55:12 PM »
It is becoming more and more common for threads on here not onlyto diverge on a tangent, but to start of as unrelated to the mod itself.  Much of this seems to be from new members like me, fans of the series but not games modders or writers.

Given that this forum is for the FS2 mod, and not a general BSG fan site, I am curious as to the opinions of the older members and mod team as to whether they would prefer the likes of me to limit post contributions to mod related topics.

No offence intended to anyone, and I don't want to create an atmosphere, but at the same time, I don't want to get in the way of the team's work or overstay my welcome.
