FS2NetD / Well i just redid the network...

Can FS2 read a DNS name from that file, or does it have to be an IP? If you could, you could just use a dyndns name and not worry about needing a new .cfg every time it changes.

hehe. If you care, my spot is here:

I don't mind having to donate $5 - it's nice to have no BS hosting and email with no recurring payment. Not to mention all the other stuff that goes along with a shell (almost an entire OS)

hmmm have to give it a try... probably better than stopping to type a message in game.

General Discussion / found a free shell server and host...

If anyone is a unix fan, or just wants some basic hosting with shell access (you actually work on the host) check this place out:

It's a part of from what I gather. To get a basic permanent account, they ask for 1 USD in the mail donation, or 5 USD paypal (minimum paypal will allow). That gives you a few more features and removes the 128 day expiration. Servers are running NetBSD.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, you probably wouldn't be interested. :pimp:

I should mention it's been around since 1987...

Well it does work in the game options menu (the test), and NOT with SCP.

But I can't seem to find a key to activate it in game...

Sorry for the term confusion, i hail from the land of FPSs, where map is the level, texture is the texture, and shaders are all the fancy effects on top of shaders :)

Well, specifically i have no 3rd party missions yet, the ones that I'm getting the error with are all the ones that come with the game straight from the retail CDs. And i was saying PXO because that's how everything in the game calls it :P

Totally unrelated question: the options menu has voice in it (voice chat) and with tom's build it works when you hit "test". How do you use this in game?

I just did a clean install of FS2, as per the stickies. I went to run a PXO game just to verify everything was good, and EVERY map was not recognized by PXO, and stats would therefor be saved (this was before the hosting stat warning).
My tables pass inspection on signing into PXO and joining a game.

Is this an unusual phenomina, or should I be doing something wrong?

Exactly what I did:
Install FS2. Run FS2. Quit and update with retail patch.
copy tom's old build over origional fs2.exe. Install launcher. Run and configure.
copy fs2netd config file to fs2directory\data

I did nothing else, and it SHOULD be working properly.

That's the latest version? I am always suspect of direct links to files without version numbers...

Thanks Goober

Where can I find the latest of Tom's build? Any special instructions for installation?

FS2NetD / Hacked Tables....

Wow, taylor. That's quite an undertaking. I would help If I had any programming knowledge, but maybe you should consider tossing the idea of helping around to people you know?

BTW, i did mean host-side not server side. (I was thinking of it in terms of client, server, listing server)

FS2NetD / suggestion

The fs2netd webpage seems pretty usefull, but how about a simple line somewhere telling the date and time of the last game creation? Maybe even a history (only a few days back) with basic stats (Started X; ended Y; peak players Z)

FS2NetD / Hacked Tables....
« on: March 27, 2006, 06:20:34 AM »
How about a major change - server side weapon/ship/etc stats that override tables? And only the stats that matter to MP? That way SCP (or you) can do whatever you want to your tables and when you join an MP game the server forces you to use it's numbers.

In the long run figuring this out opens more options for MP (server-side mods once the framework is in), and likely would cost less effort than constantly adding table "signatures" - which is essentially what CRCing them is.

And... whether SCP does do gameplay changes down the line, it's up to the servers to choose what they want.

FS2NetD / fs2netd back up, new config file is required

Now all we need is some games up...

I wonder why we don't all just use the newer tables, and fix the program code to stop nagging us about it. But that's not my decision.

Any idea when FSNetD will be back up (if ever)?
