Sorry for the delay, JS is right. I was working overtime and didn't have the time to check out your application.

I'll take a look now. :)

Review on GameTrailers:

Though I don't agree with it completely. It's not just a "good game", it's a great game.
The updated visuals are awesome!

Of course the lack of online play is a bit disappointing, but SF64 was mainly a single player game.
If you want a multiplayer StarFox game, you'll probably have to wait for a new one.

Personally I would have liked to see a new level hidden in there somewhere. (Well who knows, something might turn up later...)

I think the planned price cuts for the 3DS and the games are a good decision. Except for the lack of free time, there isn't anything holding me back from getting a 3DS and SF64 3D. ;)

Shadows of Lylat / Official "what is going on" statement
« on: July 28, 2011, 08:19:17 PM »
You may have noticed that we have been pretty quiet for a while now.

Don't worry. We are not dead!
Now less than ever. We're determined to finish this game.

There are three reasons for the recent lack of communication.

1. Until a while a go, the development went pretty slow. We made small steps, but still had problems getting all the main features of the game working, so there wasn't much to show or tell.

2. Recently we have made some bigger changes to the project. We have made a lot of progress recently, thanks to a few very active users. stfx played a big role in this. Until we are done with the main changes we can't show you anything that isn't heavily work-in-progress.

3. Nintendo has not closed down this project for years. They have just released a remake of Star Fox 64 (Lylat Wars) for the 3ds. SoL probably won't have any influence on their sales, but it still seems wrong to advertise another Star Fox game while they are releasing an official title.

You won't hear much from us for a while now. There is a lot of work to do before we can show you anything new. There are some very intersting developments, but we are not ready to let you in on them just yet.

Please be patient. We are working hard to make it worthwhile!

With my limited knowledge of japanese I think it makes sense to wait for the european version... :(

Shadows of Lylat / Happy new year to all of you!
« on: December 31, 2010, 05:13:25 PM »
Happy new year to all the team members and the whole community!

I'm sorry we don't have any surprise for you this year.
This month was a rough one for me and things only calmed down just now.

Anyway, looking at the devlopment, I think this was not a good year for us.
Many people, including myself, were very busy and there hardly was a constant flow of progress. More like a few big chunks of progess and then times when nothing happend at all.

But don't worry, things can only get better now.
Even though it means there won't be any screenshots of new content, I'd like to stick to the agenda of the last few months and focus on refining the gameplay first.
There are many missing features and before we continue with the game I'd really like to improve the gameplay and controls.

That will be a hard time for the community, as there won't be many screenshots of new content.

This is only temporary though. "The E", who btw also joined our team, is working on a material system for the engine. That mean we can use custom shaders.
I already have a bunch of ideas. Expect a performance boost and some neat visual improvements. ;)

Also, I hope a friend of mine, who is a pretty good LUA scripter will join the team next year. Together we can tackle tackle the most urgently needed scripts for SoL.

SoL is not dead. Not even close to it. ;)

And now go celebrate!

Good luck with your new job!

You seem to be happy about it, so I guess it's not bad one. :)

Ah finally, the next generation. Now I can sign off and relax. They'll take over. :)

Be a good example for him, Brox! ;)

Before we continue working on new eyecandy, I'd like the team to focus on the gameplay for a while.

Finishing scripts and code, work on the balancing.

While we're doing that some will be working on some features that will allow better visuals.
We'll make use of them for sure once they're completed.

He got you there. :)

I like LUA too. It has it's flaws, but never ... well amlost... had problems with the typeless variables. Maybe in the future more parts of the engine will be exposed to LUA.

I would be awesome to alter shader material values via LUA.

We plan on releasing additional story missions after the first release and also hope that there will be a lot of 3rd party missions.

Actually not that much. It's just a smarter way to use the environment mapping.

Improved ambient light system

Old:

New:

Performance-wise it's completely for free. It doesn't need any more CPU or GPU power.
