Shadows of Lylat / Buy Freespace 2 NOW

Why buy what I can get illegally?

Yeah. Why pay for the bread when you can just walk out of the store with it.

Not sure if Feather was joking/trolling/whatever, but the point is that as fans of the FreeSpace series, we should support the IP holders, and that can be achieved by purchasing legitimate copies of the games.

We're supposed to support Good Old Games.

Have you uninstalled and reinstalled OpenAL according to the instructions described here? Also, check if there is a copy of OpenAL32.dll in your \freespace2\ folder. There shouldn't be one.

The are other launchers? oO,47640.0.html
Don't be distracted by the fact that there are installation instructions behind the link. The point is that they include links to the most up to date stuff, including but not limited to
- Launcher 5.5d
- fs2_open 3.6.10 RC2
- 3.6.10 MediaVPs

Better yet: CPU-Z and GPU-Z. The emphasis is on your graphics card.

Well, i don't know. How do i find out?

You should know. Again the emphasis is on your graphics card, so
- use GPU-Z to find out what graphics card you have
- go to your graphics card manufacturer's website
- find the latest drivers for your particular model
- remove the old drivers from Add/Remove Programs (reboot when promted)
- install the new drivers (reboot when promted).

Anyways, i never see it as stealing. I see it as "noone sold it at the time, what else could i do? buy a $100 collectors set?".

Someone is selling it now.

No CD's, but rather a DRM-free digital download. It is the full 1.2 FreeSpace2. Completely legal. Approved by members across Game Warden and HLP.

Good. Could you be more specific?

General Freespace / Problem, might be the 1.06 Patch. Dunno.

If that doesn't help, please provide more information. We can often (or practically always) solve any FreeSpace-related problems, but we need a bit more information than just "something about OpenGL".

I dont know what you mean about the FS2_Open and the port though, so Im not gunna try that.

I didn't know what FSO and FSPort were, but I still tried them. And life couldn't be better.

Installation instructions for FSO are here. FSPort and installation instructions for it are here. Questions? Ask.

One or more downloadlinks on the absolute idiot's guide topic are broken.

If you mean the disk images, they won't be available because Good Old Games is such a convenient and legal source for the games. As for torrenting the game; indeed it isn't actually legal, but at least here most people don't actually take offense if you torrent it, since you've paid for it once already.

And I need the launcher and all the other programs...,47640.0.html

Be that as it may. But before FreeSpace 2 was "free" (it never really was, abandonware is just a term invented to relieve the moral dilemma of downloading proprietary software), you had to pay for it. Not so different from today's situation, really.
