Terrible advice. DO NOT GO TO COLLEGE FOR GAME DESIGN. If you are serious about making video games, get into modding. If you want to do coding, go to college for IT or something that can be used for something OTHER than video games. Most of it is applicable between the two and if you get a GD degree but can't find a GD job, you're fucked. If you want to get into the art side, do something like New Media or whatever.

The best free 3D modeler out there is probably Blender, while the easiest to use is probably Sketchup. You can use GIMP for 2D work and XNA to do code work to get you started. Have fun.

There is also a video of an on-rails mission that was implemented, and IIRC it was mentioned that there will be a few levels in the classic Star Fox style.

It's not particularly super-realistic, and you have no direct control over your spaceship - it's like Everquest in space really.

If you want MMO dogfighting, try Vendetta Online.

I'm pretty sure I remember a very specific discussion several people had, where we were told the engine didn't support it, IIRC.

I've seen this before and it has been noted internally, but there are no plans to my knowledge to animate it, mostly because of code limitations. Freespace Open does support animation, but not very well, it's difficult to do, and IIRC it can't be bound to a keypress (such as reverse thrust).

It's a game, I don't know if it will be all Arwing or not, I'm pretty sure they've got some other ships, and I don't know about the third, although I think there'll be both.

And how the hell can you be ranked, "the number" 3 in SF64?

Halo's ok...I prefer Halo 1 myself, it's fun to play when you want to relax (it's so freaking easy compared to the fast-paced shooters PC players are used to, like Unreal Tournament). Halo 2 I was meh on, Halo 3 brought back some of the charm from the first, but not all of it.

Might I suggest getting UT3 instead of GoW, if you intend to mod it? Even though they're based on the same engine, I believe UT3 is more expandable (and it's not tied to Windows Live on the PC).
