General Discussion / I think I may have broke HLP
« on: September 20, 2008, 01:27:32 AM »
I was repeatedly editing and saving my post, when the site became like it is now. It probably went down because of some other cause (possibly the extra load generated by wordfiltering, which I presume is a very small load), and not just me, but it is coincidental that I was doing that when it stopped working.

Sweet. I'll probably play next Friday, but Saturday I host FSO.

Is there any kind of scheduled weekly game for BtRL? I'd like to add it to my calendar, or if there isn't, I could host one.

Is there any interest?

Tmp2 / Horrible Frame-Rate issues.

Not using Vista and AVG is fine for resources. Just realized that it is the HTL asteroid bug, caused by overly-detailed asteroids/mesh errors or whatever.

I get really horrible stutters every few seconds, mainly when more than one ship is on screen. I've actually quadrupled my RAM since the last time I played, when it ran fine. The only thing different now is that I installed Patch 2.

EDIT: OK, I've ruled out ships, I think that it's the background for the asteroid field (doubt it) or Scar Asteroid. And the asteroid has textures missing, but I have all the applicable flags on.

For sites you can try NovaTech or Misco.

As for wireless, just get a cheap wireless PCI card.

General Discussion / Pretty Colors

What do the username colors mean? I've seen a sort of Martian-red, yellow, and green. Do they mean project leader, mod, and admin respectively?

Bonjour et comment ša va. Je m'appelle Cole et je suis canadien. J'aime beaucoup FS2, et je suis en train d'apprendre comment faire le modelage.

But you'll pay more if you don't custom build it. And you'll get stuff you don't want.

OK. First build.

CPU - 310$. Quad-core, very fast.

Motherboard - 170$. Good motherboard, not a lot to say.

RAM - 100$. 1000 Mhz, faster than normal, and 4 GB. Future proofed.

HDD - 155$. Rated as the best/fastest current HDD, 750 GB.

GPU - 350$. 9800GTX, Top-of-the-line. Make sure to ge an eVGA, they have very good service/warranties.

DVD Writer - 35$. Fast, LightScribe, the works.

PSU - 70$. General-purpose PSU.

Total, 730 pounds (leaving 75$ for a case). As for some components, like the RAM, DVD or the CPU, if you can't get the exact one or if it's an exorbitant price, just get the closest match.

Stay away from Sparkle/Fortron PSUs. OCZ, PC Power and Cooling, Corsair, Silverstone, Antec, Thermaltake are the good ones. Make sure that it's at least 600 watts.

For RAM, OCZ, G-Skill, Crucial, Mushkin, Kingston are your best bets. I've heard bad things about Corsair. Make sure that the RAM is dual channel DDR2-800 or higher, and try to get 4 GB, in two sticks of 2 GB. This will leave you with two more slots to add more later, and it's only about 100-110$ (if you can get the stuff I said, it's a super deal). Make sure that it's dual-channel.

I'd ask kara or another Brit about good websites in the UK.

So focus on gaming?

EDIT: What's tax in the UK?

Don't know any site sin the UK, but I could give you parts that would fit in a 1000-1200 price range.

Do you need peripherals? (monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard)

Do you have any special tasks? (modeling, Photoshopping, sound)
