Title: Releasery
Post by: Ransom Arceihn on July 25, 2005, 03:36:45 PM
Updated 7/2/2006

Well it's taken its time, but despite impressive efforts on behalf of bugs and disgruntled .pofs, Transcend is getting released.

Story:
Only a few short months after the end of the Second Shivan Incursion, amongst the chaos of Capellan refugees and ever-heightening levels of piracy, mysterious things have begun happening on the edge of GTVA space. Unexplained disappearances, strange rumours...

You are Lieutenant Sunder Marcel, recently transferred to the 103rd Shadow Guardians. Your squadron has been charged with uncovering the cause of these disturbances, to venture out into the unknown and return with an answer.

But something's strange about this case... the clues have no meaning, and reality is beginning to slip...

Everyone has a limit...

But for the love of God, run it in OpenGL. And read the installation instructions. Also Transcend requires a fairly recent build of FS Open - the 20050722 build (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33968) works fine for me. And finally, it needs the XviD codec (http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/).

Transcend (http://www.game-warden.com/transcend/downloads/Transcend.rar) [44 MB]

Alternate Mirror (thanks Evophyrexy):
http://www.thewolfdog.com/Transcend.rar

I realise 44 MB is pretty hefty for a non-TC campaign. If it's wanted I'll upload a segmented download as well, but I'm afraid apart from that there's not much I can do to lower the file size.

For those of you who don't have the cruiser01x.pof (which is in the SCP's amv_models.vp): Replacement Ships Table (http://www.game-warden.com/transcend/downloads/no01xships.rar)

Finally, huge thanks to the SCP for their awesome work, and to phreak and taylor for their dedicated bugfixing - Transcend would have been impossible without it.

UPDATE: Backslash has put together an update to the campaign which adds the new starfield skybox to the missions and fixes a few minor bugs. The main link has been updated, but in case anyone who already has the campaign wants to get the update, there is a patch available here (http://www.game-warden.com/transcend/downloads/patch.rar).

Nice, playing now :)

oh, and I tookk the liberty of hosting it....(nothing wrong with an extra mirror..?) check http://www.thewolfdog.com/Transcend.rar  in 10 minutes or so.   I should be able to provide about 400 downloads before bandwith runs out...

/me browses thewolfdog.com

/me sees a familiar track "01 - Bokutachi no Yukue.mp3"

/me likes "Pride" better. Although "01 - Bokutachi no Yukue.mp3" isn't too bad, for an adolescant singer.

Downloading. I won't be free to play it until the weekend most likely though.

Is the storyline connected to Sync? Cause I've always meant to play that one and never got the chance.

It has connections, yes. But it's not the sequel.

Download speed was slow because the file was on the old Game Warden server, since the file wouldn't fit on the new server's disk quota. Matt's fixed that now and I've finished re-uploading it, I've updated the link at the top with the new one. Should be faster now.

Heh.. guess I should make it a little (just a little, don't feel like doing anything complicated) harder to browse that... oh, and i like "pride" better too ;)

About the Campaign.. euhm.. well... guess I'm hooked.. Love the story so far..
too bad it's bedtime...

*gives in to the pressure*

Well, Ransom, you made me do it. I will now force FSO to work on my comp just for this (well, Sync, too, since I've not gotten to it :nervous: ). :)

Some capships are Ulysses's...  :blah:

And I'm told to look at planet... but there is no planet.  :blah:

What am I doing wrong?

I'm using the MV VPs...

Are you running it with the -mod commandline?

Uhmmm... no.

Damn... ok it works now. ^^

I read the readme... and forgot it though.

Damn, this campaign is good.

Edit: I'm impressed. I've played the whole campaign and it was very much fun.
The story was really intersting.

I opened the campaign in a debug build and it complained at me about a whole bunch of missing stuff (acidplanet and a bunch of others that are mentioned in the ships.tbl).

When you update can you edit the table and remove them? (Unless of course they're meant to be there and you forgot to put them in the VP file!)

Updated the patch, thanks for pointing that out.

No problem. Turns out my mv_music.vp problem is back again and while troubleshooting I spotted that and thought it worth mentioning in case there really were a whole bunch of backgrounds that weren't being used. :)

Just finished it.  Most of my thoughts are on HLP but I wanted to post here too.  Well done. :)

I almost laughed out loud at this quote:
Quote
"This is the truth which you shun! Try to breathe, Omicron!"

you just did through a smilie, Goob. :p
The Generation captain talks a lot like Beta 1 did in Sync.

I'm not sure. This may be just coincidental, as characters in many user-made campaigns tend to talk alike just because of who they are, or because one character set the standard as one or the other. Coming out of the same mission designer, however, I see what you mean.

Some of the lines in the dialogue were..... a bit unbelievable. For example, the Generation, asking the Chrondal what is in it's cargo container. The Chrondal replying 'medical supplies, we don't have time for this! (like talking is going to make him late, while his ship is still moving) and then the Generation says "I've heard enough!"

What the fuck? What did he hear enough of? :wtf:

Maybe he thought Omicron was stalling/bullshitting/whatever? It's a fair point though. Sorry about that.
I could see that, but to use that phrase after only one message, seems he either didn't know what it meant, or was just arrogant and stupid.

Make that man GTVA Command! :D
