Title: Star Fox 64 on 3ds
Post by: Flaming Cobra on June 15, 2010, 05:18:41 PM
Quote
In May 2010, DigitalNipples.com published a news article claiming that a next Star Fox game will be unveiled at Nintendo's E3 press conference. With the E3 event coming in a few weeks, they are expecting to see a new Star Fox demo or project plan.

Has anyone heard more about this?

Nope. Just saw E3 Nintendo rally too.

Only hints at StarFox were for the 3DS, with an Arwing shooting out of the 3D screen during a trailer for the 3DS, and Miyamoto talking about 3D adding depth so you can see where you're "shooting or aiming, like in StarFox."

No news as of it, we probably won't hear anything until this Fall concerning a 3DS title (possibly/hopefully a Wii title as well).

3DS? Another one? They just came out with DSi not that awful long ago. Why crank out another DS?

Also, I hope star fox doesn't move to the DS forever like Kirby. If it does, Imma be P.O.'d

looks like Star Fox 64 with some nicer graphics.
is Foxmccloud3232's Lylat reloaded project going to die now? D:
let's hope they at least make the bosses harder and put more vehicles for multiplayer.

P.S. ...and then consider the fact that the game actually plays in stereoscopic 3D.

Looks like I have to get a 3DS now...

Maybe that's because I'm a 3d artist, but I'd love to see perfect remakes with better graphics of all of my favorite games. :)

Seconded.

I played it to death on N64.

I bought it on VC and played it to death again.

It's good that Nintendo is at least doing SOMETHING with the StarFox series... I just wished they'd at least acknowledge that there's a future for the series in a console sense.

So this is a real remake, right? You know, with a few changes besides graphics. If that's the case, it will be the second time Nintendo has restarted the SF series. Ooh, I just had a terrific thought: what if this game nullifies all the games that came after 64! In essence, Adventures, Assault, and Command would be treated as if they never existed!:D But that probably won't happen, unfortunately. At least we know that Nintendo hasn't killed the series.

Does anyone know if it'll be a true remake?

from all the screenshots i've seen i can safely say this is a true remake. all the level plans are exactly the same as they were in 64. and i don't care if it's 100% true to the original i will still get it >3

Maybe if they make Dinosaur Planet again, they can sharpen up the storyline, actually "finish" the project, and update all the of the levels, characters, and animations.

This is probably what would happen, too. Similar to how GoldenEye is being remade, they'd have to almost COMPLETELY remake Adventures for it to no longer be a "Rare" remake and for the game to actually make sense.

If proper time was to be put into it, I find no problems in putting Adventures on the 3DS.

Rare is no longer with Nintendo though correct? - so maybe they ARE restarting the series instead of remaking it all over again .... but we can only hope :/

with all these rabid Krystal fans though I'd bet Nintendo would like to suck all the furry money they can get.

Send in the HAZMAT! Use gas if you have to and burn the body!

Meh, if they actually put THOUGHT and EFFORT into making an Adventures remake... good, I'd be fine with it.

I wonder they'll do if they don't remake Adventures. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't wanna go there again. Adventures was afterall forced on the series.

highly doubtful. nintendo hasn't listened to us before, so why would they listen to us now? they didn't release either Starfox OR starfox 2 on the VC even though both were in high demand. and Command was originally intended to be an enhanced version of the game, but somewhere along the line they failed miserably and created the abomination we all know and hate.

Krystal bashing is pointless. Some people praise her, ok, that's too far. But then you would have to forbid everything, because there are junkies of everything.
Krystal is an interesting character, that's it. Period.

At least the capacity for creation is still there.

On the topic of voice acting, they could get whomever they had as the lead producer of command, might just sound like the gibberish that got spewed in the old days of SNES.

Rare had nothing to do with the "series," Nintendo chose to make Adventures a StarFox game. Period.

Granted, now that they've seen user response, and hopefully various bugs, they'll do a solid remake.

I say "remake" because of the issue with GoldenEye. GoldenEye was a Rare property, which is why it has neither been released on VC or XBLA. Both claim rights to it. Same goes with Adventures.

If Nintendo "purchases" the name of SFAdv, or just retitles it, and makes a completely new game, they can re-sell it.

And that's what I'm hoping for. I have no "real" problem with StarFox being on the 3DS for a while. So long as good quality games are made, there's always a future for a console title.

Guys, the whole notion of remaking Adventures on 3DS is pretty silly. :P

Nintendo's not going to remake -two- Star Fox games on one system, within the same timeframe. Adventures would also require far more effort to port over, despite it being less commercially and critically successful than 64. All that effort would be better spent on a brand new game.

The only thing I'm worried about is the aspect of shooting. Because in Assault, (which I loved, but still) the shooting seemed somewhat...slower? I just hope that doesn't carry over. I also hope they improve the blue marine level. Or maybe add another one? Just improve the whole aspect of the thing itself. Honestly, I didn't like it too much. :/

just one question. i've thought this through before but... HOW THE HELL WOULD YOU PUT CO-OP INTO AN ON RAILS SHOOTER?! it's impossible! A) one person would always be either ahead or behind B) if they WERE syncronized, they'd keep colliding with eachother!

they could expand the view and or terrain/area and have limitations on the side you are on.

Or  just have no collision at all.

i think that would just be confusing and gameplay doesn't sound like it would be as smooth. i'd have to try it to be sure, but i think that co-op works best in free roam flight, ground missions, as well as first person rail shooters.

Then go back and try a few older games. Half-Life 2, NWN2, several others all do normal mapping on SM2. It's just a matter of writing your shaders properly.
Bump mapping has been done in real-time demos for the Amiga, for crying out loud.

But I wasn't able to find some information about the support of height maps within SM 2.0 =/

Wow, really? I noticed decent mapping in Brawl, but didn't notice in Melee. Props to Nintendo, then.
