Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: Mobius on July 03, 2009, 05:23:25 PM
There are three threads like this on HLP, so why wouldn't we have one here? :biggrin1:

I had another exam today. It went nicely, but I made the stupid mistake of forgetting the formula of an integration that is related to Earth's gravity. The problem is that the formula was not on the pages I studied - I wrote it on my excercise book more than two months ago (well enough to forget it). That formula is the most complex one I've ever seen and is full of different variables.

I'd like to show you the formula, but I can't find it anywhere on the internet... :wtf:

Other than that, things are fine. I'm about to work on Warzone 2.3 now. :D

Finally posting Warzone 2.3.1 on FSCRP Internal and adding nice stuff to Inferno SCP's mod profile on ModDB. :D

Ah, and I've also worked on NTV today. ;)

Kinda of a flimsy excuse, but ok, I suggest we try to keep it to one though.

my first attempt at making a brand new model, blender seems to fit my expectatives about a rendering program so far ^^

still wip but well... I'm in the need of some cheers to move on :drevil:

initially thought about making it a docking ship, you know a ship where the player docks and the fighter gets a tune up so it can go back to battle, but i'm adding stuff and it's getting bigger than expected.

Very interesting!!!

WHen you're done with that model do you think you'd be interested in sprucing up a tri-deck Gamilon Carrier that has similarities to your work?

I don't know what is a Gamilon Carrier, this is my first time touching a 3d modeling tool but sure.. I'll see if I can get this one around, then I'll take a look at that carrier.
I might be able to get something done, just keep a back up plan in case I fail miserably.

Unless you're already able to UV map, Rodo, I suggest to learn how to do it. :)

Oh, by the way... remember June 30th/July 1st night-time accident? I re-sat the exam I missed that day and passed it. :)

UV map?, well I'm having troubles with the LOD's ,I have absolutely no clue on how to create rapidly a LOD in blender, I just started the model right away never thought about saving the progress to use as lods in the future :S

EDIT: never mind, I just found how to do the lods fast enought, god bless blender :P

An update! model mesh is done, LOD's finished, Debris finished, starting with turrets now... or I should UV map first? someone knows about this?

Yeah, screenshots would be fine - they tell a lot about the current status of your work and also allow other modellers to post hints. :)

I might re-install my Wings 3D and Google Sketchup and try myself modelling... Again :)

If I figure out what was texturing in Sketchup like, I can help you with texturing, Rodo.

yeah sure... I'll probably add more detail on the front and in the engine once I get the turrets done.

Is it going to be a carrier?
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: Rodo on July 28, 2009, 07:43:52 PM
not quite... I was making a support ship, like the one that was proposed on HLP a while back, It would be too simple to be used as a carrier, that kind of ship might need a little more detail.
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: Mobius on July 28, 2009, 08:25:15 PM
It definitely looks like a carrier, but it may be a valid destroyer. How about its dimensions? How big is it? :)
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: shiv on July 28, 2009, 08:27:09 PM
People demands it to be a carrier, Rodo. You'r f... ekhm stuck :P
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: Rodo on July 28, 2009, 09:11:48 PM
well as I said before... sizes do not mater that much, in fact I sized it to fighter size to take the screenies you just saw, but the model itself is like.... let me see, I'll be back in a few.

edit:

ok.. standart model is:
53.850 mts long.
33.624 mts wide.
10.455 mts height.

I must say I had some ideas on how to turn this onto a destroyer or heavy carrier, but I just dropped those and focused on the original idea (I tend to vague too much thinking and not finishing actually :P )
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: shiv on July 28, 2009, 09:19:07 PM
Could you share with us your *.3ds file, so I can try to turn it into a carrier :pimp:

nothing in particular, I just got somewhat bored on HLP and decided to move here for a couple of days...

besides I was not gonna post my model over there with all those eyes lurking, it's scary :O

Rodo, I hope you'll stay with us. As you see, Game Warden is going trough massive update and it should be as much attractive for FreeSpace fans as Hard Light Productions now.

Yeah, I don't see why you wouldn't stay here. I'm somewhat forced to stay on HLP because I have INF, NTV and the FSCRP there... otherwise, I would spend my time elsewhere. ;)

I have great hopes on GW's updates, the temporary stuff is already amazing!

yeah, I'll lurk around for a while, I want to finish this model and then focus on studying again :S

sectorgame never really touched me, I have a user and all but never felt to come by to see what was happening.

ps: I was just checking the model and you might want to watch on the docking part, it's got plenty of overlaped faces, I just noticed this and i'm trying to clean it up without messing the mesh.

I agree with Rodo... way to many people watching and judging your models. To many for me anyhow.

As for other things in life, I'm trying to figure out how the heck Hammer (a Half-Life 2 map maker) works. It's slow, but I've seen someone play the first 30 minutes of HL2, and it looks like a real powerful program. :)
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: Rodo on July 29, 2009, 02:33:30 AM
so I just made the dockpoint and now...

what I'm supposed to do?

should I start making the turret models on a different layer?

or I should UV map first the model and then start making the turrets?

I'm asking if there's a specific order to do stuff, or if I just can keep going.

Seen lots of pretty girls in Torino :biggrin1: Best of all, though, was hiking to a summit at about 3100 meters, and having a stupendous view over the Valle d'Aosta, with the Matterhorn (Monte Cervino for the Italians, IIRC) and the Monte Rosa in the background.

Worst thing... Dunno, actually, it was all fun. But there were very low clouds at the source of the river Po. So, fog. But it wasn't cold, so not too bad :)

I got back from a 2 days mini vacation. It was my grandmother's birthday yesterday, so visiting her was a must. She's no longer physically independent, so my mother and my uncles hired a Bulgarian woman and asked her to stay with my grandma. Sometimes I find hard to believe that she was born only 3-4 years after the end of WWI - I feel like she belongs to another era, if you get what I mean... and she's even younger than my grandmother from my father's side (who, sadly, died at the age of 92 in 1997).

Also, I learned today that one of my cousins had her second baby, so I'll have to go to the hospital tomorrow.

I spent the last 6 hours ultimating Warzone 2.3.2, which should be released very soon. :D

good you can still work ^^

I screwed my leg yesterday playing a soccer match.. I throwed myself to the ground to block some guy and got a nasty abrade (don't know if that's the right word), I got a missing piece of sking and it hurts like crap.

Got stung by a wasp twice. First hornet/wasp/bee sting in my life.
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: Mobius on August 27, 2009, 10:50:27 PM
Bees and wasps should not be a major problem... their stings disturb a bit, but they're not dangerous.

Hornets are another matter, though - I have never been stung by one them, and their stings are not known to be particurarly healthy...
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: dragonsniper on August 27, 2009, 10:58:52 PM
I don't know what the heck it was. I was outside and somehow it got inside my shirt without me knowing and starting biting/stinging away.

Quote
their stings disturb a bit
Yes they do. It is rather painful for the first hour or two, then it dies down to a consistent annoying throb.

Quote
but they're not dangerous.
I know someone that will die upon a sting/bite if they aren't given some sort of needle right away. I also know another person that gets massive tongue swelling when stung/bitten for some reason. Within 30 minutes the swelling is bad enough to block off enough air to allow you to breath. But obviously it's not going to be like that for all people.
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: Mobius on August 27, 2009, 11:20:27 PM
Yeah, there definitely are people who are more vulnerable to stings than the others. I'm not sure, but the consequent shock may even lead to death.

Uhm, 1-2 hours seem too much for me. Everything should return back to normality in about 30 minutes.
Title: Whatever happens in your life (GW edition!)
Post by: dragonsniper on August 27, 2009, 11:55:09 PM
The two bites were very close to eachother, and the everyone's reaction to a bite or sting is different. It doesn't hurt as much right now as it is a stiffening pain. Definently not on my list of my top 10 things to do tomorrow. :)

Really? Well, they are in the final season now. It's the kind of show that if you miss the first 5 episodes, your essentially "lost." It's becoming overly confusing now though. I also have to wait 2 more months for the other shows I want to see to come back on. Stupid Christmas TV and Olympic break. *sighs*

Same here. Complex books can be much easier. However this one was a gem about 4 years ago. Then, after the 3rd season things started turning for the worst.

I've recently finished a new Ancient fighter model; it's currently awaiting textures. You won't be seeing it in act 2 yet, though.
Also, Esarai sent me his start of the HTL Akrotiri! But I'm about to receive a rather large university assignment on Monday - I wanna finish that one first before I start working on the Tiri.

I shot a rattlesnake in the woods yesterday while exploring the swamplands behind our neighborhood. The animal was right behind me when it exploded out the pine needles. And I thought furry porn made me jump! Anyway, it died after the second shot and its skin should be done curing in 2 weeks, at which time I plan on hanging it up in my room. The event also led to me making two important decisions, one, I'm never going on another expedition during the Summer or late Spring, and two, all the remaining desire to be an astronaut have left me.

I am getting my associates degree with a perfect 4.0 GPA at the age of 20 (21 on July the eighteenth) Graduation ceremony is on July 10th.

I am getting married this weekend, June 5th.

I get acid poured accidentally over my whole body turning me into a mutant of untold ability some time in the near distant future.

I choose the dark side or the light side some time after that.

That's all I can tell with my future visions... for now.

Many times, because of innumerous reasons, friendships and relationships of many years slowly fade into oblivion. Either one person gets extremely busy or moves away or gets married or finds somebody else or there is some misunderstanding between you, but whatever you had just slowly comes to nearly an end.

In most cases you can't do anything to recreate the magic, you really have to just let go. All you can do is carry the happy memories with you, move on and realise that life has done this to you to make you meet somebody new in the future . . . just press F5 and start life afresh
