I assume you'll be developing a new engine for this, right? If not, which will you be using?

Indeed it will. I talked with Gai about the Hegemonia... And it sounds damn promising :p

Hmm.. When it's done?

Doom3 engine... cool, but overrated. The upcoming Unreal engine looks ten times better. Gameplay possibilities are much better with the HL2 engine IMHO.

Agreed. And for the moment it will be built using the Doom 3 engine due to the lighting effects and the "feel" it gives a player. But we MAY change to the new Unreal engine at a later date.

Ups.. i just found the Hegemonia forum, in the bottom of the list. So nevermind what i said in the PM, Daigoji.
 :p

Anyway, it seems like there is some discussion about the engine used.
I´ve been talking to Daigoji, and we might join efforts on this project. And if so, we might be using the Unreal engine after all, as just as i pointed out it is way more powerfull and easier to work with than the Doom engine. Plus it has built-in support for flying, wich Doom´s doesn´t have. How many of you would like to have some missions where you fly a fighter? I sure would.
And lets face it, the Doom engine is all eye candy and low performance. As soon as you get into a heavy firefight, the game slows to a crawl. Not what people expect in a FPS, right?
The idea is to pull this off with as little code changing as possible, and Doom would require a ton of code changing. Also, regarding graphics, the Unreal engine is every bit just as capable of doing what the Doom engine does.
But while Doom is still very recent, and still has very little support around, the Unreal community is gigantic, and you can find just about everything you need already available. From tutorials to aplications, texture viewers, model exporters, and model skins. You name it, they have it.
That´s how i see it. If we can save ourselfs a ton of work, why not?
:p

Damn. And here I was thinking Freespace: Hegemonia was a Freespace total conversion for Hegemonia...

Why UT2k4? I'm pretty sure the HL2 engine supports flying vehicles, and the engine's quite a bit better. Personally I'd choose the D3 engine, but I fully understand your reasons for not using it.

You better use UT2K4, it will be easier to make..................isn't it?
well.....HL2 engine would be good too, but i have no idea if it will as easy to make...

Something is sure..................DON?T USE DOOM3 engine.........

right???

Um... aside from the fact that my word doesn´t count... what were the reasons that you chose UT-Engine instead of Source?
As for tutorials, forums, support etc., it´s at least at the same level, if not higher than the UT community.
I´d rather prefer using the source engine, but again, it´s not my call. This is probably a collision of two worlds, but I prefer Hammer editor over UnrealEd.

Wow. Two months after...I haven't even seen this thing.

So I'm thinking, for a demo that would probably generate lots of interest, you would recreate the Hallfight experience from FS1? You could emulate a lot of atmosphere in that mission. Dark, dank corridors, with Shivans crawling all over the place...aww yeah...

Testing equals good for me :D

And who is going to make all the animations for the shivans crawling on the walls? They'll be a bitch to make :D Not to mention all that zero-G & magnetic boots stuff...

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it; at the moment we are focusing on level design, weapons creation and then the Human characters. :)

I hope you will add more 'windows" into the levels. I'd like to the the space and perhaps even a few ship flying around there. ;)

Would be pretty cool. :)

Dont worry DaBrain,

Me and Swamp talked about that already. We wanted to create the "feel" of Main Hall in FS2. Remember when your waiting at the main menu on the Terran Screen (Or Vasudan) you could see ships flying outside?

Well we want to create that effect, and we said we wouldn't stop till we had it :)

It would be cool if you could get the halo engine. iguess you can't. and are you guys looking for someone that doesent know how to model, texture, is ok at freding (cant use the SEXP tree(Yet) , has an ok voice and i might be able to beta test. I  might only if the file is cut up into highest download size is 95mb. but there could be multiple files. :)

Post by: Primus on November 16, 2005, 03:37:09 PM
Well, we have s staff shortage.

FREDding skills aren't important in UT2k4 conversion. ;)

Voice actors will be needed, but we're far from that stage.

Beta testers will be needed too, but we're far even from Alpha. :)

Well if you need a Beta tester or some one like that, you know who to come to first.
Also, do we need the original version of Unreal Tournement(or what ever it is) to use this???
