Will we be able to pilot any ship we want?
EDIT: Sorry saw the FAQ.

So... Uh... Where's the ship list?
Title: Gallery discussion
Post by: DaBrain on March 29, 2008, 01:25:15 PM
Well, we don't want to post the list, at least for now.
Maybe we have to remove some ships from the list later, due to technical problems, or some other reasons.

I.e. there are some undarmed ships on the list and we don't know how to handle them at the moment.

I can tell you which ships are beeing worked on right now though.
The LEXX and the Deathstar.

Oh and on a sidenote: I'm looking for a way to realize the Deathstar beam. Including the smaller beams that concentrate in one big beam.
I remember finding a solution for that problem, but I can't find it anymore...

You could make little lazer shots that act like them that  fire so fast that they look like a beam and their range is where they all touch, then the big beam fires.

Would it be possible to use a muzzleflash and a beam that hovers... But that would only work at one angle. Do we have 3d muzzleflashes?

EDIT
Hades' idea is bettah.

No, we can't use 3d muzzleflashes (yet?).

Well, using a particle muzzleflash... interesting. I don't know if that works for beam weapons, but it would look odd unless you look at it in the right angle.

Well, that would work for capital ships with a bit FREDing/scripting work, but this is supposed to work for player fighters.

I guess this would all be done in chase or some extra scripting mode, right?

I meant that the player fired these lasers and the beam charges up and fires after a certain amount of time.

I wasn't talking about your idea. I was asking what viewing mode the actual mod would be in.

That would be chase cam.

At this point, I'm not sure how much scripting will be used.

LUA isn't completely functional for multiplayer.

Might be worth considering, but is the Eagle really the most popular fighter?
I think the Defender is the trademark fighter of Freelancer.

Well since it's standalone we'll be using a special build, right?

Well, it's proably not going to use a special build.

nooooo thats the trademark for the games beginning. whole and whole, its a contest between the dagger, defender, anubis, liberty battleship, and nomad ship.

That Death Star is so... Beautiful.

Can we have in-game shots of the Death Star? BTW, have you guys sorted out its weapon?

Yeah, it might take a while, but I will add in-game shots.

The beam issue has not been solved yet, however there have been quite a few good ideas how to do it. Maybe Backslash could help us to get a perfectly clean solution for implementation.

Ok I got a question. What the hell is the Lexx? I have not seen anything like it before.

Post by: OriK on May 03, 2008, 09:11:57 PM
Well, the Lexx is not that famous like Stargate or other Sci Fi movies/series. To explain what the Lexx is and what the series is about, would take a bit too much time to explain. Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexx) is a link to wikipedia. Though the series was not really succesful we decided to take the Lexx as well because the ship itself is just freaking awesome. I'd really like to see a newer version with todays cg power.
Title: What did you use to create these renderings?

I'm just curious what software tools you're using to model the ships for the gallery images, and what you rendered them in. They look terrific.
