Title: Signups for the 58th
Post by: Intrinsica on March 03, 2007, 02:18:47 AM
I mentioned in a previous thread that all the positions within the 58th had been filled. However, we still seem to be getting requests, something that I'm thrilled about. It was commented on that not all the pilots currently assigned a position have made themselves known recently, and also when thinking about the future it is always good to see that should a pilot drop from our Air Wing for some reason, there will be people happy to take their place.

However, focusing on the here and now, we have to say that we're closing our doors to applicants. We can hardly offer the spaces to people if we don't have the spaces to provide. Instead what will happen is this: People wishing to signup to the 58th Viper Air Wing should leave a message in this thread. I know this seems a lot like a previous thread that was created, but I believe we need a fresh start since the circumstances are different. I also know that last time I requested that no one should post that was already a pilot within the 58th. This time I really would like it to have an effect. Should any pilot that is already a member of the 58th decide to post in here, I'll have to go and ask Lightning to remove the post, so if nothing else just think about the hell he'll go through before thinking of posting your message...

This bit is really important for those wishing to signup:
If you want to put your name down as a reserve for the 58th, then by all means go ahead here. However, be aware that we won't be considering any other people unless there is space in the Wing. With that in mind, don't expect a response from us until we're in need of new pilots.
Finally comes the part about what we need. Unlike previous requests, we don't need anything from you at this time. So long as you make a post in this thread, we have all the information we need, namely your forum handle which will allow us to contact you by PM. If you would prefer, however, you can leave an email address and a note to be contacted via email in your post.

And now for the list of people wishing to signup for the 58th Viper Air Wing. This list is in order of signup to allow us to figure out who was first:

Newman here. Wouldn't mind joining if there's an opening. Wasted my childhood playing games like Privateer, Wing Commander(s), X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-W vs Tie, X-Wing alliance.. So I might actually know what the hell I'm doing from time to time ;)

name's X, ive been playing freespace ever since i accadently downloaded the exe version off of warez back in 2003 (long story, i'll explain at another time) ive got atleast over 1000 hours gameplay with the main freespace 2 campaign, beat it at least over 50 times on all difficulty levels. i wanna join the squad, i want to see if there are others out there who are as good as i, and then i'll kill them.
i'm best in a perseus, if need be i am an excellent bomber, i'm also highly skilled at out manuvering enemy pilots, especially around an installation or cruiser/corvette, give me a situation and i can handle it and survive. if you accept my request to join i will not let you down.

I'd like to join the 58th. I've been lurking around for sometime now checking in here and there waiting for the launch of the demo. I really wanted to see just how good it was before I signed up so that if it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be I would dropout on you.

The games looks and feels really sharp and i can see myself playing for a long time. So, I thought I'd see if you have any openings if I could slide into one.

Will provide full bio apon approval.

Hey everyone.
I'm Miles, i'm from the netherlands, and still go to school(atheneum). I havent played much flight sims yet, i did play alot of other games, some fps and strategie mostly. I also play in a clan (mostly fps), the strategies i play just from the gpgnet or with ppl from a coalition of clans (codc). Next to btrl i'm currently playing supreme commander. But to keep this short, i'm looking for a good time and fun people to play and learn this game with, so i'd like to join. :)

I'd like to sign up. I have an extensive amount of flight/space sims and was part of the TRA while playing XvT and XWA. Although, I know the flight physics are quite different, I had a k/d ratio of 1.45ish; which is fairly descent considering that many times it's "one shot, one kill".

I also play at the Freeworlds USA server for Freelancer. Been there for quite some time (almost 2 years).

I'm now learning how to fly these wonderful Vipers and, I feel, in time, I could be a useful part of your squadron. Thanks for your consideration.

I have huge experiance winning tons of recodnition in XWA and XvT.  I use to fly for EH MPG NRN and DB on the zone.  Under the names Demosthenes Locke and Ketch.  I did try freelancer for a short while but MP in that game is hugely boring and easy.  I'm currently playing Allegiance http://www.freeallegiance.org .  Which is another MP space combat game.  This mod is cool as hell... I don't know much about FS but the physics seem much like allegiance in this mod and other BSG games as well as freelancer.

I understand tactics...I played OGame for 8 months and was founder and leader (that's why my fellow comrades added CAG in my nickname) of a guild Obsidian Order (the guild was 2th place on the Uni when I retired ).

I'm here to have fun and do some wild things in the Viper :D

To do that, you need two things: a two-seat viper, and a female pilot to share the back seat with. Try Starbuck, she's already slept with just about everyone, don't get left out :D

Hi

My names Li Mclaren. Im 18 and from Melbourne, Australia.

Applied for 66th but those posts look a bit dead so heres what i wrote.

Previous experince with team games are WoW, which ive been playing avidly since release. Which involves co-ordinating , in some cases, 40 people to work towards common goals and progress through the game. I was Paladin class leader back in my guild , Masters of Mithril on Perenolde, so im no stranger to discipline and following orders. Ive also played a fair bit of counter strike, but not for a while, and WC3 on private Aussie servers.

I played Freespace ages ago at first release and have a fair bit of experience with it. I feel im a good pilot and also love the new BSG series. Would love to join the 58th because itd be a different experience to what im used to, which is guilds in WoW to a Squadron in a fighter game.

Hey there,

My name's Gryphon (some call me Griff for short), I've been a fan of FS2 for the many years it's been around and recently got back into the game for a couple months now.  I do work alot in the evenings however I'm free for gameplay mondays and tuesday nights, and anytime else after 12 or 1 AM EST.  I don't know how active you expect your pilots to be so I figured I'd quickly throw out an idea of when I'd be available to play.

I have alot of experiance when it comes to fighting with a team, I've been in clans, guilds, you name it, even ran a few as well.  I've played past games such as Mechwarrior 3 and Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries, and even before that I used to be a hardcore Descent 3 player as well (including Descent 1 and 2 but they were never online).  This would be my very first squadron if I get the chance to fly with you guys.

Email is archangelraphael@digitalarmor.net

Hope to hear from you!

-Gryphon

Edit:  Sorry I was tired when I posted this; I meant to post 12 or 1 AM EST, not PM lol.  I work in the resturant business and I always work evening shifts and usually don't get out till late.       Occasionally I'll be free on some saturdays all day, and on my workdays if anyone is on, I can pop in a game or two before work.  Btw thanks for adding me to the list!

Hey, I'm The Legacy, and I'm an avid fan of BTRL. I've had a huge amount of flying experience in IL-2 Sturmovik; two years running. In addition, I've worked on my flight chops on the much more difficult Babylon 5: IFH (if you've ever wanted to feel utterly helpless, this is a space sim for you). In this game, however, I've become adjusted real quickly; in single player, or as multiplayer-host, I've gotten a large number of kills per mission. In the survival missions, I've killed 20 in one mission before succumbing, with a 50% hit ratio! My multilpayer non-host skills do need fine tuning, however.

I'm a team player, and I love this mod. I follow orders very carefully, and I've had many, many years of clan/squad experience. I also have had extensive practice in voice chat, which I consider to be more important than text. I use both Teamspeak and Ventrilo. I also build some BTRL missions. Some of you may remember The Survey, and the other mission I made. So...if you're looking for missions, I have no problem making, then hosting a mission.

Anyways, I understand there's a list. I'll be waiting. :)

Had a bit of experience with FS2 though I've only done multi on a LAN with a mate of mine. I like both vipers, probably better in the mkII although I've fallen in love with the VII. Killed 20 raiders on the gauntlet, though I had a hit ratio of 48% and died twice so I guess I'll probably defer to Legacy! :D

Hope for happy hunting from here on out

I'm going to attempt to put fears aside. I'll do a better job sometime soon, given the age and irrelevance of this thread.

As the original post said, we're still looking forward to pilots letting us know that they're interested in joining the 58th Viper Air Wing. However, at this time we have all the pilots that we need, so anyone that posts here shouldn't expect an automatic acceptance.
Don't let this dishearten you though. If the 58th is a group that you really want to join, then leave your name here. You might be the last person to sign up, but eventually you'll be a part of the group.

At the end of the day, if you're interested in joining the Air Wing, leave your name. If you get a better offer (yeah, right...) then leave a message here announcing your decline and we'll take note.

I'm assuming this thread is still active.  My name is Kard, and I'd like to apply for a spot in the squadron if possible.

I have a lot of experience with FS & FS2, at least on campaign mode. The few times I've attempted the multi, they were inactive. But I've played through the campaigns (and earlier today, the BTRL demo which kicks a lot of ass) a few too many times.

Available US EST, evenings and weekends.

I can be contacted at denningjhotmail.com

Thank you.

PS: anyone know of good times to find open BTRL multi games I could hop in on?

I'd still like to be a part of the squadron. I've been away from the board for a long time but I'm still very interested in being a part of the team. If you'll let me I can fly for almost any time so long as I'm not asleep! ;) Whatever's best for you guys.

Consider yourself admitted. As you've probably read, we're definitely not at full blown combat readiness but feel free to use the forums and community to get into or start some games.

Anyway I could join in?

Feel free to join in. I won't put you in a squadron under anybody's command quite yet, but feel free to get involved in any of the games going on or even start one for people to join if you so choose.

I don't really know if you guys are active but I guess this is worth a shot - I'd like to sign up please. Callsign is simply "Comrade", I can be for 5-9 GMT weekdays. I'm relatively new but I'm sifting through FS1, FS2, BTRL etc.

Wait so I understand btrl and Diaspora are seperate. Does that mean btrl isn't going to be made? What happened that got the team split? Is Omni still working on btrl? (I used to read these forums a while back)

The split was due to creative differences that unfortunately couldn't be resolved. Neither side particularly wants to explain the reasons.

I know no more than any of the fans as to whether BtRL is currently being worked on or not,

i guess i could spend more time to search the forums than the 10 minutes i gave it just now, but maybe someone is willing to answer these questions for me:

- which of the two teams has more people and which one of the games is closer to an actual release?
- will diaspora be like btrl or bigger, badder and prettier?
- might the 58th switch to diaspora at some point?

It's pretty hard to answer any questions about BtRL as they haven't said anything on the subject.

You can find Diaspora's staff list here (http://diaspora-game.com/team.html). Of those Ace, Axem, DaBrain, CannonFodder, Meleardil, Mr R, _Max_, Newman, Scotchy, Shiv, Starslayer, Turambar, Turey, Wanderer, Wildcard, WMCoolmon and Unknown Target are all former BtRL members.

As for release. We still have a lot of work to do. Since we can't be certain that a release critical team member might suddenly go AWOL due to real life issues we can't give a release date or anything. All we can do is keep posting the progress we've made on our forum and let you judge for yourselves how you feel we're doing. :)

We'd like to think so. :) Release 1 of Diaspora will probably be smaller than BtRL's first release was going to be because we'd rather release small releases once in a while than a big release when everything is done. We'll certainly be bigger and better than the demo though. :)

Up to you lot. You'd certainly be welcome to do so. :) You can always play both once both are out I suppose. :)

I'm guessing it'll take a while to complete, but I'm willing to wait. I guess it's just lucky I got this new comp to run btrl and now (hopefully some time) Diaspora! Good luck with the project!
