I thought it would be nice to have an update thread that would should what we have done and what we are working on.

I do have an update at the moment I have a stable (as in on my system) collection of ships and weapons as well as other files... The point being I have the following ships with SG1 model and a complament of weapons that works without crashing:

X/F - 302
X/BC - 303
X/C - 304
Valhalla(O'neil)
Deathglider
Low-Low-Low Poly Hat'ak/Cheops

I will post picuters soon... I hope

Good news, I got a few of the new ships converted from nif's to .3ds for modification to get ready for conversion. bad news most are over 20k. But if you got a use for them we have permission...

Ori Warship 17k
Ancient Battleship 45k
Puddle Jumper closed 7k
OPen around 12k I think
Apophis mothership 12k

They look great though...

Cool send them to me ASAP... also we need one more model it needs to be top priority: We need the Hat'ak. It is the mainstay of the Gou'ald and Free Jaffa Nation fleets......

I am going off to GA, USA for christmas and will not be back until the 27... so I hope to start putting together a Beta Campaign for testing soon. This will hopefully entail missions surrounding the 302 303 Glider and Hat'ak should we have a model by then.

I will be brainstorming the plot over christmas on one of the 3 campaigns.

Just a quick update, we have a number of models, sounds, effects and I am trying my best to balance the tables.

There is the scale concern for the models which is undergoing a public debate on a thread below.

We are looking for anyone who could provide some 3d effects including the Hyperspace window and Hyperspace tunnel.

We could use some of the larger ships: Apophis and Abubis Superships, Ori Capital ships (and fighters), Replicator ships (any and all)

Any help in these areas would be more than appresated and as always full credit will be given to those who deserve it.

Quick preview, the Ori Warship just tops 9k polys...

I still need to trim off liek 3 textures to make it work in FS2 for testing purposes but so far here was the poffing test (PCS failed, MV to the rescue!)

Update...

  Getting around to working on those new meshes I acquired from the BC team. One thing I noticed after doing some research. With all the info on the net n 0one (including official sources) has listed the dimensions of SG series craft...

  Maybe I'm searching wrong, but for now I'm just going to arbitrarily size the .cob for easy working and make some test pofs and that's it. You'll have to finalize the meshes when you get the correct size (or choose your scale) info.

Uploader failed, do you have an email that can take a 29mb file?
I rar'ed up all the .cobs, originals textures, and if I got that far renamed sorted pcx images and a few test cobs I haven't tried yet (converter failures on the rest or just too damn high poly!) :D

Good news...

First I found the meshes both in testable and untestable stages. I am uploading to Rapidshare (100mb limit) as I type this... Will edit and insert link. That way if things go South at least they are archived by people...

I also got a NEW (at least new to me) Computer!

I need to copy over what I need essentials via portable HD's but I only got one monitor and I really want to get this done in one trip if possible. Is there anyway I can get my old computer hooked up to my new one? I had tried that once before last time I upgraded butt they never detected each other.

For the curious it's dual core 3.0ghz
1gig DDR2ram
crap Intel 256 vidcard, but will do for immediate now I think.

These are great Star. I have begun to revamp the tables and start converting the new models. The 304 is causeing problems do to its high number of polys but Im hoping that this can some how be resolved some how. My current plan is to try using the new version of PCS to try and see if it will work. I am also looking into putting the anubis command ship into see how it looks but we should have something good soon to show you all.

Well I guess an update is in order. I am still unable to convert the new 304 model the poly count is way too high. I have tryed the Ori warship which is half the poly count and it converts nicely. I will be placing weapon hardpoints on it soon and will look into getting the teltak and at least one other model converted.

I am using the older 304 model to test how the plasma beams are going to work. So far they are not firing when a target is in range so I am unsure what the problem is. It could be teh firing arcs but you never know.

I hope to get some pictures up as soon as I get the model in. TTYL.. TTFN

Yeah that 304 is a b*tch as is for fs2(Beauty of a model though!). I toyed with trying to poly reduce it, but I got in way over my head. We need someone like Omni to "work some magic on it" ;)

He's a student so if anyone has any money I'm sure he's open to bribery.. Haha..

It's not that we need a whole new one, it;s just that the existign one we got permission for use of is too complex and needs to be reduced some and hirearchy changed so the convert program won't have a heart attacka nd seize up. It can be made perfectly useable as seen by the BTRL thread and soem fo the ships they have used (like that MONSTER Pegasus!)

50k polys is NOT that much for FS Open now, but it has to be done just so. Unfortunately the models we had access to are more of the sci-fi meshes quality.

hey I looked at some threads for the program Im using (SCP) and they said to another person that 58K was way to much... I was able to load the Ori warship which is only around... 40K? I think I'll have to look on my desktop.

I tryed to wreduce it as well and ....... yeah it looked like someone ... tiled the textures.... eeeekkkkkk...

Anyway my school project isn't going as smooth as I thought so I haven't had time to work on converting the others... I hope to be finished and work on it some today or tomorrow.

Which Ori warship??? it should only be around 9k

And 58k is not too much, it's just that someone familiar with fs2 modeling needs to set it up right not to cause conflicts. (that and how many 58k ships are you planing on having on screen for any mission???) They can get away with a 67k Pegasus cause there is only ONE!

Look at all the 1-2k models I tried that Kazan has kittens over cause "they are not done right" yet a 9k model can get in smooth as silk.

I was estimation on the size. The Ori ships are not a problem, the 304 is.

 I mean the max I am thinking is 1-2 304's Most of the time, Deadauls and Apollo. If I can get the model to convert properly then no more trouble. plus the model after I add shields and turrets will be more than that... after that there are hardpoints and paths etc. this sucker is going to be hugh. I am hoping that I can get it to work.

Anyway I hope to get the Ori ships in soon and I have to revamp the weapons table for the Asgard to have enough punch to kick Gou'ald butt, but allow the Jaffa and Ba'al forces go some what toe-to-toe with the replicators and the asgard ... anyway balancing this is going to diffacult.

You might want to have entries for basic Hataks and then upgraded ones. Don't have upgraded ones till LATE in the Goa'uld era so by then the Jaffa/Tokra can get their hands on some.

It was in the DL link (I think expired now, meant for JC4JC, but I posted in the public thread for archive purposes. I doubt this project would be threatened by others), but regardless it's insanely high on the polys. JC4JC will have to develop a replicator storyline that includes it later then get a new mesh or poly reduce it.

  I don't recall if he mentioned it earlier about the reps, but from this point on all I can do is provide moral support, some VA, and maybe one or two surprises in the future...

I'm am currently out of state and will be working on a few ideas for a short teaser, trying to find a good desktop recorder for that. I hope that it will be good. I have been trying to work on the low poly x304 turrets and am not liking the results. I may just try to use what I have and make the movie. I may just start putting up contests to have things like terrain, planets, etc. for backgrounds and missions. I also need to start working on the UI before to much longer... but until I have a little more help it is a few people doing a large project. Until then I am unsure when I will have a new stuff I am working full time and looking for a new job so this and other projects have once more taking the back burner. But I am still thinking on it... so we are not dead!

Well the trailer is taking a little longer than I had hoped to make. I have been shifting between different ideas along with working on the mod itself. Most of what I am doing is tweaking the tables and, more recently,working with the music. I am most likely going to start work on the menu graphics so that it looks like Stargate SG1 and not Freespace 2. All in all... there is still a ton of work to be done.

Well I have hit snags... as usual and am trying to develop an idea for the menu graphics. I have halted all work on the models as well as the the ship and weapon files. I am shifting focus to the other aspects of the mod, it is a total conversion after all. At this time I do not want to give away to much so... hehe ;)

I am looking at getting some of the music I have and trying to get some nice pieces together for a teaser mission... so I'll keep you up-to-date as that gose. i am also looking for anyone who would like to help with the interface portion of the mod check out the looking for staff thread to get an idea of what we need.

Small Update the computer that all the mod files are on has been inaccessible for a few weeks and as such I have not been able to work on the trailer. This is in a large part that my wife and I are moving into our own place. So everything is in the process of being packed for the move.

We will also be without internet unless we go over to my parents house for checking e-mails and forums and the like. I do plan on working on the trailer and hope to have it done by the time we are able to get internet. Until I have access to the files I will try and work on stories lines for the missions...

I miss posted this by accident so just to recap.

First, I would like to apologize for the lack of updates on the mod. My wife and I are in the mist of getting our new home ready for us to move in but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done on it so that has taken a lot of time. Also this is one of three projects I am currently working on most of which I am working on by myself. Despite all this I am still working on the mod.

Second, as I stated earlier I am working on the mod I just haven't the time to psot updates. I work on it and by the time I stop, not finish but stop, I have to get to bed or work or somewhere else and I forget or don't get to post an update about it. Now I will attempt to list some of the things I have been working on... for the mod.

(1) I have been working on the weapon effects and converting them to the .dds recommended file formate. I have even reworked a few of them to look better.

(2) I have recovered all but 2 of the music files kindly created for the mod by RogueAngel. Despite his or her disapperence I have started applying it to the mod. I have also started converting them to the .ogg recommended file formate.

(3) I have been working on new ideas for missions and campaigns in general. I have about 3 or 4 ideas for the campaigns and a ton of ideas for the missions in general.

(4) Models have been a block for some time. I believe we have a good selection of models for the ships and weapons. However, anyone who has at least watched a few episodes battles take place with ships on the ground as well as in space, example... antartica. I have tried to get terrain to work but even the simple generators, even on reduced poly mode, won't work. But I think I have a solution... I'm going to... hehe like I'm going to tell before I do it... yeah right!

(5) Trailer. I have final found a desktop record that could work for me, finally. Anyway I hope to have something working with this in the near future. No time frame at this time... time frame = promise... I promise and don't get it done... that makes me a liar.. me no liar.

Well I think that is it.. yes I think alot and yes I know it is dangerous. If I remember anything or I have somthing new I will try an post it on an update. I am also going to try and get screenshots up soon.

OK So I don't get another announcement about being archived I finally was able to get internet for a while to give this update.

First, Moving has slowed my work but I am constantly running new ideas through my head. As soon as the move is done I am hoping to resume work.

Second, I am working up the plot and happenings of a Lucian Alliance War. This is mostly in my head but some is written down.  Other previous ideas will be applied and worked on.

Next, I have been browsing NASA's websites, yes plural, for images I can use to portray planets in the solar system and planets outside the solar system and so on to use as background images.

Right now I am trying to get things in motion to try and get more rapid development of a demo going.

That is all for now so I guess I'll go look for more pictures.

I figure that with the New Year I should provide an update.

First to starlord, the teaser is still in production stages I am not happy with the way any of them are looking and changes to FSO has resulted in me having to go through an redo certain effects.

Second I am rebalancing the ship and weapons tables I noticed the other night that the 304 was way to powerful and was taking out ha'taks with little to no damage to the shields. yes the asgard shields are powerful but taking on 2 ha'taks and not taking damage is just unbalanced. that is just one example.

I am in the the process of looking for upgrades for old my computer so i am hoping development will go faster when I do.

anyway just letting you all know i am still here and am working on teh mod

Well due to problems with my desktop, I have been restricted by how much I am able to work on the mod. I believe that it is on its last leg and upgrading it will be mandatory very soon.

I am trying to work on a few things that are not reliant on the information and file on that computer. Backgrounds being on of them, I have been trying out a few online tutorials on how to make nebula effects, plants and the like. It is very time consuming but some of the effects I am looking at is incredible.

Well I figured it is time for an update. I have been working on the nebula and other background stuff with limited success. I am also thinking of some other stuff too much for even me to fully list.

I am still having trouble with my desktop that has the primary files on it, but I am working out a solution to extract them onto an external drive so I can work from any computer, partially eliminating this overall problem.

Well that is it for now I will be looking onto posting some of my less than wonderful attempts at nebula later, I suppose.

Hi, im a stargate fan, and have been keeping an eye on this.
Also, i know that moving isnt easy, so much stuff to move, and if your moving long distances, it can take a while. Good luck with your new home, and hope everything is working out for you.

Well a minor update. I have been very busy with work and the new home but i have been doing some major research on some information concerning SG1ED. I also have been working on a some much needed updates on the website. However I have not as of yet been able to get our new log-in info. As soon as I can get that information I will try to get an update on the website setup.

on another note I will be leaving today for a much needed vacation to Michigan, US. I am in a toss-up as to whether I should take my laptop or not. I need a chance to relax but i am also wanting to work on some projects including SG1ED.

Anyway I have been thinking  (hear, there, at work and the like, when i can think openly) of some simple combat missions to try and just show case the mod. I am also in a position to try and upgrade my computer. I am hoping that within the next month I will be able to continue working on the mod on a regular basis.

well that is all for know I suppose. See you all later, or next week whichever is the case.

Well update time. Everything and I mean everything (except working, sleeping and house renovations) has been brought to a standstill (mostly because of the renovations). This means my computer is still packed up and safe from the sawdust and anything else that could destroy it.

I still have a great deal of things I am ready to implement, including alterations to the weapons and ships tables. balancing anything is always difficult.

anyway that is all for know I hope to have better news soon.

Well I think an update is past due. I am still trying to get access to the website since the switch over. On a down note my computer is showing signs of dying, the graphics card is not working at all. I have over the last few weeks been working on the mod, finally. I was working on re-balancing the weapons and fixing some glitches with some of the textures and graphics. Anyway I am going to be looking for a sub statue for my now not working graphics card.

Well, Time, past time really, for an update. my new system is up and running and I am hoping to get started on working on the mod again here soon, my laptop is acting up and that is just another thing. I hope to have more details soon.

It has been a bit of time since my last update so I guess I should put up something.

I have been had some real life issues come about that has resulted in losing time on the mod. As for the trailer I almost had a good 15 minutes of video recored when I realized it was going about 5 fps and had no sound so. I am going to have to rerecord all of it and start from there.

In order to keep things going I have started making more leeway with getting a much need video made. I think I am on to a break through with the recording applications, Fraps is to expensive and others don't play nice with FS2.

I hope to have something... anything in the next few weeks... Crosses fingers!

Greetings everyone. I have been working on several projects lately and each is eating time out of the other. I have been trying to get some good in-game footage and I am hoping to have it up before to much more time passes. I am going to try and start working on the UI textures and maybe even some UI animations. More updates Later!

Greetings, it is again time for your SG1ED Update. Still working to get a viable game play vid but I have had nothing but problems with the video codecs I have.

I have also found that I drastically overpowered most of the Tau'ri Weapons and Ships. Fights that should last a long time take no time at all. I am again re-balancing the tbl's and I am having to go back and fix an issue with some of the weapons and engine effects.

I am also going to have to find a work around for the Capital ship AI's. The Ha'taks like to shoot at fighters and bombs instead of other Capital ships. I may have to introduce some kind of anti-fighter/bomber weapon to them so that the main guns focus only on Caps I'm Not sure.

Again I am sorry for not having the video and I am working on it.

Hey cool! Updates!

With regards to the weapons targeting: Having different types of weapons for different targets, and then giving the big guns the capital+ flag would be a good idea. You can also use an objecttypes.tbl to set targeting priorities, somehow. Probably :/

I have been working on some of the tbs and things are working a little better now. As for the gameplay video I am having trouble with my desktop recorder. Apparently divx's encoder only works for a few days.

I am also working on other things as they come up and are noticed. I hope to have more sooner than later!

I realize it has been a while since I updated. I am having RL stuff that is draining most of my time and I have not had access to the computer that holds the Mod files so I have not been able to work on it for a while. Figured it was time for an update so... Still working on that footage last time I was able to work on it. I was still having issues with desktop recorder so it is just a matter of being able to sit down and work on it for a few hours.

Greetings all I am hoping to resume production soon. With the move and no means of using my desktop for any projects anything I work on has been delayed ,slowed or otherwise not worked on. I am very much ready to start work on the mod and hope to bring you something worth the wait.
